Tuipulotu quietly blossomed into a disruptive player last season, improving upon his 4.5 sacks his rookie year to 8.5 in 2024 while still functioning as one of the team's better run defenders along the front line. With Khalil Mack clearly on the back nine of his career and little more than retread pass rushers or unproven youngsters behind Tuipulotu on the depth chart, the Chargers are depending on the USC product to take yet another leap to aid an inconsistent defense. Tuipulotu got to Dak Prescott for a six-yard sack on the final play of the first half, and the former scooped up his first fumble of the season late in the fourth. Tuipulotu has accumulated 5.0 sacks across the four games since the Chargers' Week 12 bye, and his 13.0 sacks (across 15 regular-season games) are tied with Danielle Hunter for third most in the NFL behind Myles Garrett (22.0) and Brian Burns (15.0). Tuipulotu will look to add to his total against the Texans on Saturday, who are dealing with injuries to starting offensive tackles Aireontae Ersery (hand) and Trent Brown (knee).

In a season mired by injuries and plenty of losses, Tuipulotu was one of the team's few bright spots as the 2023 second-round pick turned into a disruptive force off the edge tallying 4.5 sacks and a number of tackles for a loss. With both Khalil Mack and Joey Bosa healthy, plus the addition of veteran rotational pass rusher Bud Dupree, Tuipulotu likely won't find a spot in the starting lineup immediately, but given the injury history of the aforementioned trio, the second-year pass rusher could once again find himself in a prominent role.
