2025 Fantasy Outlook
Both Mack and longtime Charger Joey Bosa seemed destined to part ways with the organization this offseason as the team attempted to retool a younger defense on the fly. It was somewhat surprising, then, to see Mack re-sign with Los Angeles on a fully guaranteed one-year, $18 million deal. The 34-year-old is just a year removed from registering a career-high 17 sacks in 2023, and while Mack predictably regressed to the mean in 2024, the veteran still graded out as one of the best pass rushers in the league thanks in large part to a whopping 54 quarterback pressures. The combination of Tuli Tuipulotu and Mack will be asked to do much of the heavy lifting when it comes to getting after the quarterback, as there's very little in the name of established pass rushers behind the duo. Staying with Bolts on one-year deal
Mack and the Chargers agreed to terms Monday on a one-year, fully-guaranteed $18 million contract, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.
ANALYSIS
Mack had been scheduled for free agency, but he instead will remain in Los Angeles, where the departure of Joey Bosa leaves edge rusher still a pivotal position of need for the Chargers. The 34-year-old veteran is coming off a productive 2024 campaign in which he tallied 39 tackles, including 6.0 sacks, plus nine pass breakups and two forced fumbles over 16 regular-season appearances, and as recently as 2023 he racked up a career-best 17.0 sacks across 17 regular-season games with the team.

There was real belief among pundits that Mack could fall victim to the Chargers' salary cap woes, but the team opted to restructure the veteran defender's contract to keep him around for another season. Mack's 17 sack total last season certainly look stellar, but it's a bit of a misleading mark given that he only registered a sack in eight games which includes a six-sack outing against a beleaguered Raiders offensive line in Week 6. The 33-year-old will need to once again be an electric force off the edge to make up for a young and unproven secondary, although there's reason to believe Mack could be even more consistently disruptive, provided teammate Joey Bosa is finally able to stay healthy.

Return generates excitement
Mack's decision to play at least one more season in 2025 and do so with the Chargers was highly welcomed by coaches and teammates alike, Kris Rhim of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Mack, who said his main impetus for returning was his career-long unfulfilled dream of winning a Super Bowl, signed a one-year, $18 million contract in March after mulling retirement and also speaking to other teams. Defensive coordinator Jesse Minter said Mack's decision to return "means everything" because of the veteran's leadership and talent, while safety Derwin James said he began lobbying Mack for a return since immediately after the Chargers' wild-card loss to the Texans in January.
