On the heels of back-to-back seasons as a starter with Carolina (in 2020) and Denver (in 2021), Bridgewater headed to Miami last year to work behind Tua Tagovailoa. Concussion issues limited Tagovailoa to 13 games, so Bridgewater ended up making five appearances (two starts) for the Dolphins in which he completed 49 of 79 passes for 683 yards, four touchdowns and four interceptions. With Mike White now slated to back up Tagovailoa this season, Bridgewater, who turns 31 in November, remains among the more notable free-agent signal-callers still available.

Bridgewater plans to retire after the 2023 season, Dave Birkett of the Detroit Free Press reports.
ANALYSIS
The 31-year-old quarterback nearly hung up his cleats after last season, but Lions heads coach Dan Campbell talked him into coming to Detroit to back up Jared Goff. With rookie Hendon Hooker close to joining the 53-man roster after recovering from knee surgery, however, Bridgewater may be phased out of that role before the end of the regular season. The 32nd overall pick by the Vikings in the 2014 Draft, Bridgewater made the Pro Bowl in 2015 before a knee injury derailed his career. He indicated he would like to go into coaching at the high-school level after retiring.
