2025 Projections
Option officially picked up
The Jets exercised Gardner's fifth-year option Wednesday.
ANALYSIS
Gardner has been one of the NFL's top cornerbacks since entering the league in 2022, so it's no surprise the Jets picked up his fifth-year option. The 24-year-old received first-team All-Pro honors in each of his first two seasons, tallying 132 total tackles, 31 passes defended, including two interceptions, and one forced fumble across 33 regular-season games during that span. Despite having the worst year of his career in 2024, Gardner is expected to bounce back and remain one of the league's best defensive playmakers in 2025.

Past Fantasy Outlooks
2024
2023
2022
Gardner has already established himself as arguably the best cornerback in the NFL, posting consecutive first team All-Pro seasons in his first two campaigns after being drafted fourth overall by the Jets in 2022. The Jets secondary is likely to remain elite with Gardner leading the way, but unfortunately for fantasy purposes, quarterbacks know Sauce's elite reputation and rarely test him. Gardner has only two career interceptions and dipped to 11 passes defensed in 2023 after leading the league with 20 as a rookie.

Latest Fantasy Rumors
Makes history with Wilson, Johnson
Gardner, Garrett Wilson and Jermaine Johnson, who is recovering from a torn Achilles, became the first trio of teammates to each have their fifth-year rookie option picked up in the same year, Mike Garafolo of NFL Network reports.
ANALYSIS
The first round of the 2022 NFL Draft was a rare bright spot for a Jets team that has encountered much more misfortune than success in recent years, leading to the offseason departure of ex-GM Joe Douglas, who presided over that historic draft class. With Gardner, Wilson and Johnson locked in through the 2026 campaign, the Jets have building blocks on both sides of the ball as they look to turn things around with a fresh start around the organization, which includes a new head coach, new general manager and new starting quarterback for 2025 in Aaron Glenn, Darren Mougey and Justin Fields, respectively. Gardner's option being picked up doesn't preclude him from signing an extension.
