2025 Fantasy Outlook
After wearing out his welcome in Denver, Wilson signed a one-year deal with the Steelers last offseason. He wasn’t run out of town this time, but he didn’t do enough to be asked back either. Wilson signed another one-year deal this offseason, this time with the Giants, confirming that he's in the journeyman portion of his career. After missing the first six games of last season with a calf injury, Wilson posted a 12:3 TD:INT in his first seven games while averaging 8.4 YPA. But he threw just four TDs in the last four games, with 5.7 YPA as the Steelers went 0-4 to back into the playoffs. Wilson got the ball out quicker than usual, which freed him from his usual dependence on RB dump-offs under duress and increased his YPA to 7.4 (15th). He's still an excellent deep thrower -- 45.5 completion percentage on attempts of 20-plus yards (2nd), 111.0 passer rating (4th) -- but prorating his overall numbers to a full season would only put him in the QB15 range, about the same as the previous three years. In New York, he’s keeping the seat warm for 25th overall pick Jaxson Dart. Even if Wilson keeps the starting job all season, he doesn’t have much upside at age 36, with only one true playmaker to target in Malik Nabers. Read Past Outlooks

Expects to play next season
Wilson said Monday that he intends to continue playing in 2026, Connor Hughes of SNY.tv reports.
ANALYSIS
Wilson endured a rough 2025 campaign after joining the Giants on a one-year contract in March. The veteran signal-caller opened the season atop the depth but ended up lasting just three weeks as the starter, struggling mightily in Week 1 (against Washington) and Week 3 (against Kansas City) around a throwback Week 2 performance versus Dallas during which he threw for 450 yards and three touchdowns. Ironically, Wilson shared Monday that he actually suffered a Grade 2 hamstring tear on the final play of practice the Friday prior to the game against the Cowboys, per Hughes, making his monster performance all the more remarkable. Ultimately, Wilson appeared in just three more games following his demotion, completing four of nine passes for 53 yards and rushing twice for 12 yards in a backup role behind rookie Jaxson Dart before falling to the No. 3 spot on the depth chart (behind Dart and Jameis Winston) late in the campaign. Wilson is slated to be a free agent, and while his options are limited if he wants to have a chance to earn a starting role, there are a few NFL teams with shaky enough quarterback rooms to potentially give him that opportunity.

Wilson’s second year in Denver went better than the first but not well enough to avoid getting benched late in the season and then released in March with a record $85 million dead-cap charge. He quickly signed with the Steelers, who later traded for Justin Fields. Wilson is in “pole position” to start, according to coach Mike Tomlin, and the 35-year-old would help himself if he just got the ball out quicker. Only Fields (3.23) took longer to throw than Wilson’s 3.06-second average last year, as he, again, stubbornly waited for downfield opportunities before repeatedly taking sacks or settling for check downs. Wilson ranked third in the NFL with 12.6 percent of his attempts traveling at least 20 yards and second with 26.2 percent at or behind the line of scrimmage, leading the league in RB screens for the second consecutive year. It amounted to a 6.9 YPA (22nd) on a 7.1-yard average target depth (25th) -- both career lows. Perhaps in Pittsburgh he’ll stop hunting for home runs and be content with drive-moving completions -- he was second in completion percentage (65.5) on attempts of 10-19 yards last season but simply didn't have many of those passes. The Steelers have a pair of quality targets in WR George Pickens and TE Pat Freiermuth, but they otherwise seem to be counting on unimpressive Van Jefferson and/or third-round rookie Roman Wilson. Pittsburgh figures to be run-heavy anyway with new OC Arthur Smith taking over an offense featuring RBs Najee Harris and Jaylen Warren. It's a situation in which Wilson is unlikely to put up big fantasy numbers even if he stabilizes the team's offense.
