Quentin Johnston

Quentin Johnston

23-Year-Old Wide ReceiverWR
Los Angeles Chargers
2024 Fantasy Outlook
After being drafted by the Chargers in the first round last year, Johnston had a terrible rookie season. Once Mike Williams went down with an ACL tear Week 3, Johnston typically played a lot of snaps but caught just 38 of 67 targets (56.7 percent) and surpassed 30 yards in four games. In the last five weeks of the season, Johnston averaged 58 snaps but failed to reach 30 yards even once. Despite the Year 1 struggles, Johnston should get another chance to prove himself in 2024 under a new coaching staff. Fellow WRs Keenan Allen and Mike Williams are no longer with the Chargers, replaced by second-round pick Ladd McConkey and 27-year-old DJ Chark (now on his fourth team in four years). Johnston and Joshua Palmer are the returning wideouts with experience as NFL starters, so it'll likely come down to those two, McConkey and Chark taking most of the WR snaps under running-game-focused offensive coordinator Greg Roman. Makes three catches Thursday
WRLos Angeles Chargers
December 19, 2024
Johnston secured three of six targets for 18 yards in the Chargers' 34-27 win over the Broncos on Thursday night.
ANALYSIS
Johnston played a minor role as his final line implies, finishing the night with the sixth-fewest receiving yards on the Chargers. The second-year speedster had put together back-to-back five-catch, one-touchdown efforts in his previous two games, so Thursday's modest and scoreless line represented a notable downturn. Johnston will look to take advantage of the Patriots' non-Christian Gonzalez inconsistent secondary coverage during a Week 17 road matchup in New England on Saturday, Dec. 28.

2023 Fantasy Outlook
Johnston is the No. 1 WR prototype in this year's rookie class, while fellow first-rounders Jaxon Smith-Njigba, Jordan Addison and Zay Flowers lack ideal measurables. At 6-3, 208, Johnston put up a 40.5-inch vertical and 134-inch broad jump at the 2023 combine, later running a reported 4.50 40 at his pro day. That after totaling 634 yards in eight games as a sophomore and 1,069 yards in 14 games as a junior, albeit with a limited route tree and dependence on the deep ball. Fortunately for him, he landed with one of the better deep throwers in the league, though Justin Herbert's volume skewed toward the short passing game under former OC Joe Lombardi. New OC Kellen Moore typically had his offenses in Dallas move at a fast pace while taking plenty of shots downfield, and he may favor three-wide sets more than ever after the Chargers used the 21st overall pick on a talented receiver to join Keenan Allen and Mike Williams. It's a situation where Johnston merely profiles as the No. 3, which makes him unlikely to see more than 5-6 targets per game if Allen and Williams both stay healthy (which they didn't last season).

Latest Fantasy Rumors
Could be without starting QB Week 4
WRLos Angeles Chargers
September 22, 2024
Johnston could be catching passes from backup quarterback Taylor Heinicke in Week 4 against the Chiefs, as Daniel Popper of The Athletic reports that Justin Herbert underwent X-rays on his injured ankle and left in a walking boot after Sunday's 20-10 loss to the Steelers.
ANALYSIS
Herbert and Johnston connected for two touchdown passes in Week 2 against the Panthers and added another one Sunday against the Steelers before Herbert aggravated his high-ankle sprain and exited in the second half. While Johnston's off to a surprisingly strong start after a forgettable rookie season, maintaining that momentum will be tough against Kansas City's stingy secondary, especially if Herbert's unavailable.
