2024 Fantasy Outlook
There have been some close calls during Evans' 10-year streak of 1,000-yard seasons, but 2023 wasn't one of them. He had one of his best campaigns yet in the first year after Tom Brady's retirement, with his most targets (136), catches (79) and yards (1,255) since 2018 while falling just one TD shy of his career high (13 was still good enough to tie for the league lead). QB Baker Mayfield enjoyed a renaissance, and his solid work throwing downfield allowed Evans to land slightly north of his career averages for YPT (9.2), aDOT (14.0) and YPC (15.9) despite taking on more volume. The Bucs threw fewer passes than they had with Brady, but Evans' share of the targets skyrocketed to 24.5 percent after three straight years in the high teens. Tampa then managed to re-sign both Evans and Mayfield this offseason, though OC Dave Canales slipped away to become head coach of the Panthers. New coordinator Liam Coen said he plans to move Chris Godwin back to the slot -- which should correspond to a higher target rate -- but there's not much else around in terms of target competition after the Bucs used all their cap space to keep the gang together and settled for third-round pick Jalen McMillan as WR3 competition for Trey Palmer. And while the likelihood of TD regression has to be noted for any player that accounted for 13 of his team's 28 receiving scores, Evans has a lengthy track record of hitting paydirt (12.3 percent of his career receptions) from both distance and inside the red zone, Read Past Outlooks

Limited in return to practice
Evans (hamstring) officially was limited at Wednesday's practice.
ANALYSIS
Coach Todd Bowles relayed to Scott Smith of the Buccaneers' official site earlier Wednesday that Evans was trending toward a return to action for Sunday's visit to the Giants. A capped showing to begin Week 12 prep indicates Evans will ramp up his workload as the week continues, meaning his activity will be monitored closely to ensure Bowles' thoughts become a reality this weekend. In the end, Evans is seeking his first game action since aggravating a right hamstring strain Week 7 versus the Ravens, which so far has sidelined him for three contests.

Between two missed games and the fallout from Tom Brady's decline, Evans appeared in serious danger last December of losing his eight-year streak of 1,000-yard seasons. Then he ripped the Panthers for 207 yards and three TDs in Week 17, later sitting out Week 18, to finish the year with 1,124 yards in 15 games, i.e., his normal level of production. Evans will be tested again in his age-30 campaign, with the Bucs apparently letting Baker Mayfield and Kyle Trask duke it out for the starting job. The winner of that less-than-stirring battle won't have the benefit of a top offensive line the way Brady did a few years back, but the receiving corps at least appears in good hands with Evans and Chris Godwin, though Russell Gage suffered a season-ending injury in training camp. Of course, all of that becomes problematic for Evans' fantasy prospects if he's dealing with solid target competition in an otherwise lackluster offense while moving a step slower than he did in his prime.

Latest Fantasy Rumors
Trending toward playing Sunday
Evans, who's missed the Buccaneers' last three games due to a hamstring injury, is expected to play in Sunday's game against the Giants, Nick Shook of NFL.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Head coach Todd Bowles confirmed Evans, who practiced on a limited basis Wednesday, was trending toward returning Sunday, which has been the receiver's target return date since sustaining the injury. Evans is 665 receiving yards short of recording 1,000 yards for the 11th time in as many NFL seasons, and if he's able to reach that milestone, he'll tie the legendary Jerry Rice for most consecutive seasons reaching that mark within a career.
