Staying in Washington
Mariota agreed Wednesday with the Commanders on a one-year contract, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.
ANALYSIS
Mariota's combination of experience, mobility and scheme familiarity makes him a sensible backup for Jayden Daniels, who didn't miss any games during his rookie season but left two contests early (once because of an injury, and once in Week 18). Mariota played well both times, throwing for multiple touchdowns and completing more than 75 percent of his passes without turning the ball over.

After signing a one-year deal with Washington in March, Mariota will back up No. 2 overall pick Jayden Daniels. In Mariota's last two years as a Week 1 starter -- 2019 in Tennessee and 2022 in Atlanta -- he lost the job before the season was out. Last season was spent backing up Jalen Hurts in Philadelphia. Mariota is a capable game manager, but he takes a lot of sacks and struggles with downfield accuracy, and he's often been plagued by injuries during his 10-year career. He's still mobile, though, so perhaps his rushing ability will lead to fantasy value if he ends up filling in for Daniels at some point.

Return to Tennessee on table?
Mike Jones of The Athletic predicts that Mariota will sign with the Titans in free agency.
ANALYSIS
Mariota wasn't the franchise savior the Titans were hoping for when they drafted him second overall in 2015, as he posted a 29-32 record in 61 regular-season starts for Tennessee spread across five seasons. After subsequent stops in Las Vegas, Atlanta, Philadelphia and Washington, Mariota could get a chance to compete for a starting job if he goes back to Tennessee, where Will Levis has a 5-16 record as a starter heading into Levis' third NFL season.
