2025 Fantasy Outlook
Hubbard's 2024 season was a triumph and a standard-setting moment for a team trying to find its way back to the surface. His cultural impact on the Panthers is no doubt part of why they signed the former fourth-round pick to a four-year, $33.2 million extension in November, and coach Dave Canales has repeatedly gone out of his way to identify Hubbard as the golden example of the kind of player the Panthers want to build around. Carolina signed Hubbard to the extension even before rookie second-round pick Jonathon Brooks re-tore his ACL in December, so Canales clearly had Hubbard in mind as a foundational piece regardless of Brooks' status. With that said, Hubbard is probably not much better than average relative to other starting running backs, and though he has seemingly earned Canales' trust as a pass blocker, Hubbard does not have a history of standout pass-catching production. Even if he has a good career from this point forward, there's a chance 2024 could go down as a career year. That would be particularly true if free-agent pickup Rico Dowdle steals more playing time than 2024 backup Miles Sanders did previously. The Panthers don't figure to be particularly good and likely will face catch-up scripts regularly, so it could be hard on Hubbard's margins if Dowdle poaches any reps early in games. Tops 100 scrimmage yards in win
Hubbard carried the ball 17 times for a team-high 83 yards and caught both his targets for 41 yards and a touchdown in Sunday's 31-28 win over the Rams.
ANALYSIS
The fifth-year running back topped 100 scrimmage yards for the first time all season and got into the end zone for the first time since Week 8. He turned a screen pass into a 35-yard TD in the first quarter for Carolina's first points of the afternoon. Hubbard's touch volume also tied his season high, and with Rico Dowdle (58 rushing yards on 18 carries) struggling to make an impact in recent weeks, the workload split in the Panthers backfield may be tipping back in Hubbard's favor. The team will be on bye next week, so clarity in the pecking order likely won't come until a Week 15 clash with the Saints.

Hubbard did the improbable and sent Miles Sanders to the bench last year even after Carolina gave the former Eagle a four-year, $25.4 million contract. Hubbard didn't exactly set the league on fire, averaging 3.8 yards per carry, but he was mostly impressive when you factor in how bad the Panthers offense was. Even with his 2023 accomplishments noted, Hubbard's fantasy value took a major hit when the Panthers made Jonathon Brooks (knee) the first running back selected in the 2024 Draft. The Panthers took Brooks at No. 46 overall with the intention of making him their starting running back at some point, though not necessarily right away as he completes his rehab from an ACL tear suffered in November. While solid as a runner, Hubbard is particularly vulnerable to Brooks on passing downs. Hubbard has improved his pass catching considerably since dropping seven of 37 targets as a rookie, but it's still a relative weakness for him and a strength for the incoming rookie.

Appears set to lose work to Dowdle
Head coach Dave Canales hinted Monday that Hubbard is likely to cede more carries to Rico Dowdle, Steve Reed of the Associated Press reports. "Chuba has meant a lot to this organization and certainly to the identity that we want to build and we wanted to give him the opportunity to go out there and to continue to impact our team in a positive way," Canales said. "But we cannot ignore the fact that Rico has been exceptional. ... We love tempo and violence that he is running with. These are things we are looking back on the last four games and really taking a snapshot of what has been successful for us."

Latest Fantasy Rumors
Unlikely to be moved at deadline
Joe Person of The Athletic relays that the Panthers want to keep Hubbard on the roster past the Nov. 4 trade deadline.
ANALYSIS
Hubbard was the Panthers' lead back through the first four games of the regular season before missing Weeks 5 and 6 due a calf injury. That allowed Rico Dowdle to take over as the team's RB1, and the latter turned 53 carries into 389 yards and a touchdown while adding seven catches on nine targets for 84 yards and a score in the two games when Hubbard was sidelined. Person relayed Friday that Dowdle will take on the majority of carries against the Packers on Sunday. While Hubbard's role in the offense is set to shrink, the Panthers are adamant on keeping the fifth-year running back for his value as a team leader and his ability to complement Dowdle out of the backfield.
