2025 Fantasy Outlook
Watt has been among the league's most dominant linebackers throughout his career, and he reached a three-year agreement with Pittsburgh in July with a $41 million annual salary that made him the highest-paid non-quarterback in NFL history. Watt hasn't missed a regular-season game since 2023, and he logged 61 tackles (40 solo), including 11.5 sacks, along with four pass defenses, six forced fumbles and two fumble recoveries in 2025. Although his sack numbers declined, he still led the team in the category while also ranking 10th in the NFL, and he should maintain plenty of upside this year. Read Past Outlooks
Return date murky
Watt (lung) is focusing on getting healthy, and a date for him to return to action is uncertain, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.
ANALYSIS
Schefter indicates that Watt's focus is simply on recovering from his partially collapsed lung, with a return to play currently a secondary concern. The star linebacker has already been ruled out for Sunday's Week 16 game against Detroit, and it's not clear if he even has a chance to play in Week 17 against Cleveland. Watt would need to get medical clearance for him to return against the Browns, though Schefter suggests that "ideally Watt gets more time to recover" from the lung injury.

Watt played in every regular-season game last year for the first time since 2019. He put together one of the most productive seasons of his career, tallying 68 tackles (48 solo), including 19 sacks, along with four forced fumbles, three fumble recoveries, an interception, a touchdown and eight pass defenses. Watt missed the team's wild-card matchup against Buffalo due to a knee injury but participated in OTAs this spring and should be ready for the start of training camp. If he can stay healthy for a second consecutive year in 2024, he should remain among the league's top defenders.

Latest Fantasy Rumors
Remaining out in Week 16
Watt, who was sidelined for the Week 15 win over the Dolphins due to a partially collapsed lung, will remain out against the Lions on Sunday, Brooke Pryor of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Watt sustained the injury during a dry needling treatment during Week 15 prep. The elite edge rusher failed to practice this week following his Dec. 10 surgery, but he was feeling well enough to be at the team facility Thursday and Friday. The 2017 first-round pick's next opportunity to take the field will come in a Dec. 28 road matchup against the Browns.
