This is our Week 17 Sunday Night Football DFS breakdown, running through all the relevant player salaries on DraftKings and FanDuel while forecasting the potential game outcomes as the San Francisco 49ers face the Chicago Bears in San Francisco.
Sunday night's game between the home-team San Francisco 49ers (11-4) and the visiting Chicago Bears (11-4) is one with two of the best teams in the NFL, with the Bears leading the NFC North and the 49ers still chasing the 12-3 Seahawks for the lead in the NFC West.
There is scoring expected with the over/under at 51.5 and the 49ers favored by 3.5.
QUARTERBACK
Caleb Williams ($10000 DK, $12000 FD) remains hit-or-miss at best as a passer, and when he doesn't get going as a runner he's liable to go a bit cold from time to time. Adding DJ Moore's illness to Rome Odunze's absence creates further potential challenges, but the projected point total in this game is favorable and if the Bears come through on their part of the bargain then it could foreshadow a quality fantasy game from Williams, if only as a runner. The 49ers defense is missing several notable starters and most recently will be without CB2 Renardo Green.
Brock Purdy ($10600 DK, $12600 FD) has nine touchdown passes in the last two games, though that momentum might get stunted by the absence of George Kittle in this game. Ricky Pearsall remains questionable, too, so for Purdy to stay hot here would require big games from at least Jauan Jennings and Christian McCaffrey. Both players have plenty of big games in their recent history so it's far from a long shot, but it might be the particular way it needs to unfold.
RUNNING BACK
Christian McCaffrey ($11800 DK, $13800 FD) is almost always an advised start on single-game slates and this one is no exception. The projected point total is substantial and that's in the context of the 49ers lacking major firepower from scrimmage with Kittle out. If the 49ers score points here but Kittle isn't involved, then there's a good chance McCaffrey is what bridges the gap. At the very least, to fade McCaffrey here is to fade the 49ers' chances of winning. Brian Robinson is generally a punt play or a McCaffrey fade but he's getting around eight carries per game and remains consistently involved.
Calling D'Andre Swift ($8000 DK, $8000 FD) versus Kyle Monangai ($7000 DK, $7000 FD) is never an easy task, and sometimes the answer is 'both.' In this game the Bears could really use the second answer, especially with Odunze out and DJ Moore (illness) questionable. With slack from scrimmage and a good projected point total, the math is there for Swift and Monangai to coexist on cashing lineup cards as long as the Bears score enough points. If you're high on the Bears in any given game you are almost necessarily high on at least one of Swift or Monangai.
WIDE RECEIVER + TIGHT END
DJ Moore ($8400 DK, $8600 FD) would be a tough fade if not for his illness, but going into this game questionable makes him a tough call. Luther Burden ($6800 DK, $6400 FD) is an advised start if Moore is out, because Moore and Odunze leave a lot of slack and the Bears will see a lot of reps against a weak cornerback duo in Upton Stout (slot) and Darrell Luter (boundary). Colston Loveland ($4800 DK, $4400 FD) also becomes even more tempting if Moore is out, though Loveland has a case regardless, both because of his standout talent and because the 49ers have struggled to defend tight ends in 2025. Cole Kmet ($2800 DK, $2800 FD) is more in the punt-play category but he's certainly justifiable as far as that goes. With Olamide Zaccheaus ($4600 DK, $5200 FD) also questionable with illness there's a chance that Jahdae Walker ($2400 DK, $1000 FD) becomes a borderline advised play -- if Moore and Zaccheaus are out then Walker is the WR2 after Burden. Devin Duvernay would also be worth serious thought if both Moore and Zaccheaus are out.
If Ricky Pearsall (knee/ankle) ($7600 DK, $7400 FD) can play here then he wouldn't be an easy fade, but if he's less than 100 percent then Pearsall would be at risk of seeing a decoy role rather than a busy one from scrimmage. Jauan Jennings ($8600 DK, $9400 FD) has been the main producer at receiver for the 49ers in recent weeks, and with George Kittle out there's even more slack to land on Jennings. Jake Tonges ($3000 DK, $3200 FD) is a central consideration given his favorable pricing, but the talent gap between him and Kittle is substantial. Demarcus Robinson ($4400 DK, $3600 FD) and Kendrick Bourne ($5000 DK, $4800 FD) are otherwise candidates to pick up any slack related to the absence of Kittle or/and Pearsall. Although Luke Farrell is a justifiable punt play as the TE2, there are enough other bargains in this game that perhaps this isn't the ideal week to take that swing.
KICKER
Both kickers in this game warrant consideration on the one-game slate.
Eddy Pineiro arguably gets the initial nod in a season where he made 27 of 28 field goal attempts, reaching double-digit fantasy points in a remarkable nine games in 2025. With a healthy projected point total in this game there's no obvious reason why Pineiro shouldn't make it 10 games.
Cairo Santos is not as good as Pineiro but still grades as solid, so if the Bears move the ball quickly enough he too could prove a cashing-viable pick. Santos is 24 of 29 on field goal attempts in 2025 while reaching double-digit fantasy points in five games.
DEFENSE/SPECIAL TEAMS
Both defenses in this game warrant some amount of respect, but the over/under more so expects considerable scoring and neither offense has surrendered many sacks or turnovers to this point.
The 49ers might have had a strong defense this year but simply suffered too many injuries – they'll additionally be without CB2 Renardo Green this week after previously losing Fred Warner, Nick Bosa and Mykel Williams.
The Bears catch Purdy after he threw nine touchdowns in the last two games, though in this one Purdy will be without George Kittle. That the game is in San Francisco probably works against them a bit, though, and the Bears' vulnerable run defense is a major concern against McCaffrey.
