It's been almost a year since the latest World of Warcraft expansion, Legion was released. This led many fans to no doubt to expect some sort of announcement on a new expansion at this year's Blizzcon. Blizzard more than delivered on that front.

Battle for Azeroth is the next expansion

With the Alliance and Horde left in a state of disarray following the events of the last expansion, it's time for the score to be settled. That will come in the newest expansion, Battle for Azeroth. No release date or window was announced, but we did get some information on what will be coming on release.

  • New Alliance Kingdom of Kul Tiras
  • New Horde Empire of Zandalar
  • New level cap of 120
  • New dungeons & raids

There will be plenty to sink your teeth into whenever the expansion is released. In the meantime, check out the opening cinematic down below.

Vanilla is coming back

Besides a new expansion, fans have been clamoring for a way to return to the days of old when the game was first released. A team of developers who go by the name of Nostalrius made an attempt to set up legacy servers of their own, but they were shutdown by Blizzard soon after release. The team met with Blizzard last fall, however, and now we know why.

Rather than let another team build such a product, Blizzard has taken over control of this endeavour and are bringing World of Warcraft: Classic to life. From the sound of it, this is a long-term project that won't be out for some time. J. Allen Brack, Executive Producer of World of Warcraft, alluded to this by joking that they may need to retrieve the original Vanilla servers that were auctioned off back in 2011 to complete this task. Nonetheless, it is real and is coming at some point in the future. The announcement trailer is down below.
