Heat Gets Past Pistons, 103-102
The Miami Heat defeated the Detroit Pistons, 103-102, at Kaseya Center on Wednesday night in opening game of the season for both teams.

The Heat (1-0) were unsurprisingly solid home favorites as the defending Eastern Conference champions in a matchup against a Pistons (0-1) team that sported the NBA's worst record a season ago, and by halftime, it appeared Miami was well on its way to victory. After Detroit emerged from the opening period with a surprising three-point advantage, the hosts' dominant 32-18 edge in the second quarter sent them into halftime with an 11-point lead. The visitors were then able to chip three points from their deficit in the third, but the Heat extended its lead to as much as 19 points with under 10 minutes remaining in the final period. Monty Williams' club then stormed back by finishing on a 27-9 run between the 9:07 and 1:44 marks of the fourth quarter but missed their final four shots, including Cade Cunningham's 31-footer with 0.1 seconds remaining.

Cunningham led the Pistons with 30 points, adding nine assists, three rebounds, one steal and one block. Jalen Duren generated a 17-point, 14-rebound double-double that included four assists and four blocks. Isaiah Stewart turned in 14 points, 14 boards and two assists. Killian Hayes furnished 10 points, three assists, one rebound, two steals and one block.

Bam Adebayo paced the Heat with 22 points, complementing them with eight rebounds three assists and two blocks. Jimmy Butler provided a 19-point, 13-rebound double-double that included four assists and two steals. Tyler Herro supplied 16 points, three assists, two rebounds and three steals. Duncan Robinson poured in 15 points, while Kevin Love turned in a 13-point, 10-rebound double-double that included two assists.

The Pistons remain on the road and visit the Charlotte Hornets on Friday night, while the Heat visits the Boston Celtics on Friday night as well.
