After an action-packed Week 5, we analyze the top NBA Fantasy performers who deserve to be locked into your lineup. Our analysis reveals why perennial stars like Nikola Jokić and Luka Dončić continue to put up dominant NBA player stats, while breakout performers like Tyrese Maxey and Jalen Johnson are redefining their fantasy basketball rankings.
The following players averaged the most fantasy points per game last week in Yahoo High Score leagues (two-game minimum)
Top Fantasy Basketball Players (Week 5)
#1. Nikola Jokić, Nuggets
Last Week: 74.5 FP/G Season Rank: 1 (72.2 FP/G)
It was more of the same for our repeat king of the hill this week, as Jokić delivered another stellar set of performances despite the Nuggets going only 2-2 in Week 5. The perennial MVP contender closed out the scoring period with a spectacular 44-point, 13-rebound double-double against the Kings, a performance preceded by a pair of triple-doubles earlier in the week in favorable matchups against the Bulls and Pelicans. Jokić had a somewhat reduced offensive role in the first handful of games this season, but that's firmly in the rearview mirror as he once again stuffs the stat sheet with regularity.

#2. Luka Dončić, Lakers
Last Week: 71.5 FP/G Season Rank: 2 (68.6 FP/G)
One can rest assured knowing that Dončić is never too far away from the top five

#2. Luka Dončić, Lakers
Last Week: 71.5 FP/G Season Rank: 2 (68.6 FP/G)
One can rest assured knowing that Dončić is never too far away from the top five on any given week, and he returns to the upper echelon after a strong Week 5 in which he averaged 35.0 points, 9.0 assists, 8.0 rebounds and 3.5 steals across 37 minutes per contest. The Lakers played just two games, but Luka kept up his stellar production despite sharing the floor with LeBron James for the first time this season in the opening contest of the week against the Jazz. Dončić appears primed to continue serving as the team's most indispensable component moving forward.

#3. Tyrese Maxey, 76ers
Last Week: 64.2 FP/G Season Rank: 5 (60.7 FP/G)
Maxey has been the most important cog in the Sixers' engine over the first month of the campaign, especially with Joel Embiid mostly sidelined by his long-running knee issues and Paul George only recently making his season debut. The highlight of Maxey's four-game week and a driving force in his ascension to the No. 3 spot was a 54-point outburst in an overtime win over the Bucks in the penultimate game of the week. He opened the scoring period by hanging 39 points on the Clippers last Monday. Neither Embiid nor George can be relied on to consistently stay on the court, so Maxey should have plenty of similarly productive weeks in his future as he continues to build on what are career-best figures virtually across the board.

#4. Cade Cunningham, Pistons
Last Week: 60.0 FP/G Season Rank: 6 (59.4 FP/G)
Cunningham came back from a three-game absence due to a hip injury in the Pistons' second game of the week and went on to provide 27.0 points, 10.0 assists, 7.0 rebounds and 1.5 steals across 33.5 minutes per contest while shooting 48.8% from the floor. The 2021 first overall pick was perfect on all 10 visits to the free-throw line as well, and he continues to be a virtual lock for at least a double-double any time he takes the floor.

#5. Jalen Johnson, Hawks
Last Week: 58.0 FP/G Season Rank: 11 (52.0 FP/G)
Johnson held steady in the No. 5 spot for a second consecutive week, as he continued to put the Hawks on his shoulders in the absence of Trae Young (knee). The breakout fifth-year star continued his career-best season by delivering 24.3 points, 9.8 rebounds, 9.0 assists and 1.5 steals across 37.8 minutes per contest during Atlanta's four-game schedule, generating a pair of points-rebounds double-doubles and one points-assist double-double in that span. Johnson also drained 78.3% of his 5.8 free-throw attempts per contest, and he's now shooting a career-best 80.0% from the line for the season.
