2025 Fantasy Outlook
A rash of outfield injuries forced Scott onto the Cardinals' Opening Day roster last year, but he was sent down to Triple-A Memphis after looking overmatched for a few weeks. The 24-year-old continued to struggle while at Memphis until a swing change around midseason allowed Scott to tap into a little pop and earn a trip back to St. Louis. Scott hit five homers and four doubles during a 23-game stretch from late July to late August but was eventually sent down again after Michael Siani got healthy. It's Siani who represents Scott's biggest roadblock to playing time in 2025. Scott has far more upside of the two and has the potential to be a fantasy difference maker with his speed, but a lack of polish offensively and defensively could mean more time in the minors for Scott initially. Earns starting role
Scott will be the Cardinals' Opening Day center fielder, Derrick Goold of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports.
ANALYSIS
Scott had a difficult time during his first taste of the majors last year, posting a .179/.219/.283 slash line with two homers, 10 RBI, 14 runs and five stolen bases over 155 plate appearances. He did look better during his second call-up last summer and shined in spring training this year, registering a .366/.469/.756 slash line with four home runs, seven RBI, 11 runs and five thefts in 15 Grapefruit League contests. The big numbers in exhibition play pushed Scott ahead of Michael Siani for the starting role in center field, and Scott should now be a hot commodity in fantasy, especially given his potential to steal loads of bases -- he posted a 99th percentile sprint speed last season and swiped 95 bags in the minors in 2023.

2024 Fantasy Outlook
No longer an underrated speedster after a strong Arizona Fall League showing, Scott is a throwback center fielder with 50-steal upside. He has a career .290 average and .367 OBP to go with 107 steals (86 percent success rate) and 11 home runs in 163 minor-league games. Scott capped his 132-game age-22 season with another 23 games in the AFL, slashing .286/.388/.417 with three home runs, 18 steals and more walks (12) than strikeouts (eight). Unlike some slash-and-dash speedsters who go up to the plate trying to dump singles into the opposite field, Scott had pull rates over 42 percent and groundball rates below 50 percent at High-A and Double-A. Good pitchers should be able to challenge Scott inside, but he still projects to be a better pure hitter than recent speedsters like Esteury Ruiz or Billy Hamilton. Not that he doesn't excel at small ball when necessary: Scott hit .708 on 28 bunt attempts last season (24 against lefties), per Baseball America. It's important to note that Scott is a 70-grade defender, so the Cardinals are going to be motivated to try to coax enough offense out of him to justify playing him every day. He could debut as a reserve option later this summer. A move into a prominent big-league role is more likely to take place in 2025.
