Victor Scott

Scott won the Cardinals' Opening Day center fielder job, played premium defense and ranked in the top 10 in baseball with his 34 stolen bases. Unfortunately, the speedster showed very little progression from an offensive standpoint. Scott's .601 OPS ranked 175 out of 117 players to accrue at least 450 plate appearances, and he was dead-last in that group with a lowly .296 slugging percentage. He's been particularly feeble against non-fastballs, with a .247 xwOBA versus breaking pitches and a .217 wOBA against offspeed offerings. Scott will be entering his age-25 season in 2026 and, between his excellent defense and the Cardinals going through a rebuild, should have some leash on an everyday job. However, we haven't seen anything to this point to suggest he could become anything more than a one-category specialist. Read Past Outlooks
