Rest-of-Season Projections
2025 Fantasy Outlook
Allen was the Athletics' Opening Day shortstop last season, but he had lost that job by the end of April and wound up spending the bulk of the year in the minors. Among 455 players to accrue at least 100 plate appearances, Allen ranked 449th with just a .463 OPS. He has just a .537 OPS since debuting in 2022, and that's easily the lowest mark in baseball among players to tally 500 trips to the plate. Atlanta liked Allen's glove enough to trade for him over the winter, and he could open the season on its bench, but the chances of the 26-year-old making a fantasy impact are virtually nil. Tallies three hits in rout
Allen went 3-for-4 with a double, a run and two RBI in Saturday's 10-1 win against Cleveland.
Analysis
Most of Atlanta's offense came from the bottom of the order -- the team's No. 5-9 hitters went a combined 10-for-22 with nine RBI. Allen was a big part of that, recording three knocks from the No. 9 slot while collecting two RBI, more than he had accumulated over his previous 23 games combined. Allen batted a meager .156 during that 23-game span, so he'll look to use Saturday's effort as a launching point for more success at the plate.

Past Fantasy Outlooks
2024
2023
Allen began last year in a platoon role with the A's, but he was quickly sent down following a 1-for-16 start. He would go on to bounce between Triple-A and the majors for most of the season before settling in with the big club for the final two months. The patience he had shown during his time at the Triple-A level was not there in his time with Oakland, but Allen was at least able to make contact and hit for a palatable batting average down the stretch. Listed at 5-foot-8, 166 pounds, Allen is severely lacking in the power department, as he's never once reached double-digit homers in a professional season. If he's to ever make an impact in the fantasy realm, he will have to do it with steals and batting average. While not a burner, Allen has shown good efficiency on the basepaths in the minors over the past two seasons. The 25-year-old tentatively projects as the starter at shortstop for the A's entering 2024.

Latest Fantasy Rumors

Time running out as starter
Robert Murray of FanSided.com speculates that shortstop prospect Darell Hernaiz could soon be called up by the A's, which could bring an end to Allen's run as the club's primary shortstop.
Analysis
Allen leads Oakland with 58 starts at shortstop this season and has started 24 of 29 games at the position since the All-Star break, but he sports a .204/.254/.282 slash line through 169 games in his big-league career. Hernaiz is one of the organization's top prospects and has a .945 OPS in 30 games since being promoted to Triple-A Las Vegas in mid-July, which could be enough for him to earn some starts in the majors down the stretch.
