2025 Fantasy Outlook
If you're not left-handed, thus not able to carve out a career as a reliever, the next best thing is learning how to call a game and be a defensive-minded catcher. It's worked for Hedges, despite batting .171/.234/.273 since 2019, he's maintained a steady job as a reserve backstop, racking up 56 defensive runs saved in that span, by far the most behind the plate. Hedges is slated to back up Bo Naylor in Cleveland. As for fantasy, Hedges has no allure. Read Past Outlooks

Hits second spring homer
Hedges started at designated hitter and went 1-for-3 with a solo home run in Monday's Cactus League game against Cincinnati.
ANALYSIS
The Guardians put out what looked like a normal regular-season lineup, except for Hedges. His main role is as a backup catcher, and he doesn't hit well enough to be a viable DH. At any rate, it was the second Cactus League home run for Hedges, who is batting .133 (11-for-30) with three extra-base hits and three RBI this spring.

Hedges spent the bulk of 2023 with Pittsburgh before winning the World Series with Texas after a mid season trade. A backup catcher at this point of his career, Hedges signed with Cleveland in December where he will provide a veteran presence behind Bo Naylor in 2024. Hedges remains a strong signal caller and defensive option behind the dish, but hit just .184/.234/.227 across 211 plate appearances in 2023 with his glove being the calling card to keep him in a job. It's hard to see any real fantasy appeal for Hedges, even in two catcher formats.

Getting hits on trade market
Pittsburgh continues to "get hits" on Hedges ahead of Tuesday's trade deadline, per Mark Feinsand of MLB.com.
ANALYSIS
Feinsand notes that the Pirates are also fielding offers on Rich Hill and Ji-Man Choi with the 6 p.m. ET deadline fast approaching. Hedges is slashing just .180/.237/.230 through 187 plate appearances this season and hasn't played much since Endy Rodriguez was promoted, but the 30-year-old catcher might make sense as a defense-first backup for some contending club.
