This article is part of our Yahoo DFS Baseball series.
Wednesday's all-day MLB slate begins at 1:10 PM Eastern time and features 15 games. With a can't-miss stud in a favorable matchup (Jacob deGrom) chewing up a large chunk of cap space on the mound, most of the picks accompanying that pitcher are values from the middle and lower parts of the price spectrum.
For those interested, we've started an MLB DFS slack channel for paid RotoWire subscribers. (There is a season-long one as well). To join those channels, e-mail support@rotowire.com.
PITCHER
Jacob deGrom, NYM vs. MIA ($55): DeGrom's absolutely worth paying up for against the league's least potent offense. He's in the midst of a fantastic stretch that's seen opponents score just one earned run in 26.1 innings over deGrom's past five appearances, and the right-handed ace is undefeated overall while sporting a 1.75 ERA, 1.82 FIP and 69:14 K:BB in 51.1 innings this season. The sky's the limit for deGrom against a Marlins offense that's scoring by far the fewest runs in the league at just 3.40 per game.
Kyle Freeland, COL at LAD ($36): Freeland's had some struggles against Justin Turner (as highlighted below), but one dangerous batter isn't reason enough to avoid the surging southpaw against an underperforming Dodgers lineup. He's got a tidy 1.59 ERA over his past five starts while posting quality starts in each of those outings, and pitching in Dodger Stadium (23rd ranked 0.87 park factor) is a cakewalk compared to toeing the rubber in Freeland's home park at Coors Field (second-ranked 1.35 park factor). Given his affordability despite his strong recent form and a solid 22.4 percent strikeout rate, Freeland's tough to pass up here.
CATCHER
Jonathan Lucroy, OAK vs. SEA ($13): Lucroy's career wOBA against lefties is a solid .344, so the affordable right-handed catcher shouldn't have trouble finding success at home against Seattle southpaw Marco Gonzales. Considering Gonzales' .359 wOBA allowed to batters from the right side this season is an improvement on his .380 career mark, right-handed Oakland hitters in general make for strong value plays here.
FIRST BASE
Josh Bell, PIT at CIN ($19): The switch-hitting Bell has been more proficient against right-handed pitching in his career, producing a career .340 wOBA that's .019 higher than his mark against lefties. Pittsburgh's cleanup hitter should see no shortage of RBI opportunities against Reds starter Homer Bailey, whose expensive contract is likely the only thing keeping him in the rotation. Bailey's allowing a .399 wOBA to batters from the left side this season and has a 6.11 ERA after pitching to a 6.43 mark a year ago.
SECOND BASE
Daniel Robertson, TB vs. BOS ($17): While the sample size isn't all that big, Robertson has excelled against left-handed pitching this season, producing a .441 wOBA in 48 plate appearances. Look for him to continue his hot streak against former Rays left-hander David Price. Price's 4.38 ERA suggests he's far removed from his best days in Tampa Bay, while his 4.02 FIP and 4.43 xFIP indicate that luck hasn't had much of a role in Price's pedestrian performance.
THIRD BASE
Justin Turner, LAD vs. COL ($18): The struggling Dodgers are happy to finally have Turner back, and his impact should be felt most greatly against left-handed pitching. He posted a monstrous .484 wOBA against them in 142 at-bats last season and is off to a similar start over a tiny sample in 2018. Freeland is tougher than your average lefty, but Turner's success in this split is impossible to ignore. While head-to-head stats aren't the best indicator, it's worth noting that Turner has dominated Freeland in the past with a .545/.583/.818 line in 11 at-bats.
SHORTSTOP
Didi Gregorius, NYY at TEX ($15): Gregorius finally appears to be stirring from his slump, making this a great buy-low opportunity on April's AL player of the month. The left-handed slugger still finds himself batting in the heart of baseball's most explosive lineup and has a .361 wOBA against right-handed pitchers like Doug Fister, who has a 4.73 FIP this season after allowing a .365 wOBA to left-handed hitters last season.
OUTFIELD
Rhys Hoskins, PHI vs. ATL ($15): Hoskins is one of the most talented hitters found in this price range, and he also benefits from the platoon advantage against young lefty Luiz Gohara, who will be making his first major-league start of 2018 after posting a 4.91 ERA as a starter last season. Far more established lefties than Gohara have struggled with Hoskins, who owns a .413 career wOBA in that split.
Michael Conforto, NYM vs. MIA ($13): Conforto has mashed right-handed pitching since being selected 10th overall in the 2014 draft, producing a .374 career wOBA in that split. The left-handed slugger should continue his success against veteran righty Dan Straily, who has a 14:14 K:BB through 20 innings this season and has surrendered a .431 wOBA to the 51 left-handed batters he's faced.
Adam Jones, BAL at CWS ($17): Jones has always been better in righty-on-righty matchups than against left-handed pitchers, managing a .342 career wOBA in the former split and just a .318 mark in the latter. Few right-handed pitchers are more vulnerable than Chicago's Dylan Covey, who has surrendered a .429 wOBA to the 179 right-handed batters he's faced in his career.
