Thursday night's slate is a weird one in terms of pitching with the two highest-priced arms going against each other. I'm looking elsewhere, though, with a lineup built upon value and a couple big bats. I only took one player from the Orioles-Yankees game because it has the highest chance of getting postponed due to the storm system swirling in the east.
PITCHER
Jose Quintana, CHC at NYM ($38): Quintana isn't a flashy pick, but he's had big outings, reaching 23 fantasy points four different times this year. That'll be possible against the Mets, which remains the worst team in MLB against southpaws in almost every stat with a 27.1 K percentage, .095 ISO and .269 wOBA. Quintana has given up one run or less in four of his last six and this could be another one of those.
Jordan Lyles, SD vs. MIA ($29): If you're going heavy on your other pitcher, Lyles is a viable arm to consider. He's shown upside, already carving the Rockies for 10 Ks, and both of his home starts have been much better than on the road. The Marlins should instill plenty of confidence in Lyles with a 22.1 K percentage and .303 wOBA against righties, both being worse rates than the two teams he was recently shelled by (LAD and PIT).
CATCHER
Mike Zunino, SEA vs. TEX ($12): Zunino is having major issues against lefties in 32 plate appearances this season, but his eight homers and .297 ISO from 2017 are still inside him somewhere. Mike Minor could be the answer with at least three runs allowed in his last six starts to go with a 1.76 HR/9 against righties.
FIRST BASE
Anthony Rizzo, CHC at NYM ($23): Rizzo is on fire with a couple homers in the last few days and is in a good spot to spend up. After a slow start, he has six homers against righties to go with last year's .230 ISO. Seth Lugo is set for a spot start and anything can happen after he managed a .329 wOBA against lefty bats in 18 starts last season.
SECOND BASE
Brian Dozier, MIN vs. CLE ($14): I'm not high on any of the second basemen, so decided to go with value in Dozier. He at least provides power, and his numbers are about equal to where they were last year when he had a .203 ISO and .339 wOBA against righties. Shane Bieber is making his MLB debut for the Indians, and while he's coasted in the minors, this over/under is at nine runs for a reason. The Twins are one of the better teams at not striking out against righties (20.7 K percentage in the last month) and that could be an issue for Bieber.
THIRD BASE
Miguel Andujar, NYY at BAL ($12): Andujar still comes at a discount, so there's no reason not to use him. Most of his success has come against righties, with 17 extra-base hits (4 HR) and a .379 BABIP. Everyone is blasting Andrew Cashner and he's been worse than last year's 4.73 xFIP against righties. If rain is an issue, Matt Carpenter ($18) is the pick, although he costs a little more.
SHORTSTOP
Yairo Munoz, STL vs. PIT ($7): Munoz is getting most of the time at shortstop with Paul DeJong out, so he's worth a gamble. Munoz has a solid .476 BABIP in 33 plate appearances against righties and that could be useful against Trevor Williams, who gave up two singles to Munoz when they met a week ago. The righty hurler has also given up at least three runs in four of his last five starts.
OUTFIELD
Mitch Haniger, SEA vs. TEX ($18): If Zunino can't get to Minor, Haniger will with a .442 BABIP in 63 plate appearances against southpaws to go with his career .198 ISO and .343 wOBA. Minor was more competent last year, yet still had a poor 4.13 xFIP against righties.
Kyle Schwarber, CHC at NYM ($16): Schwarber is always worth a look with an iffy righty on the mound. All 10 of Schwarber's homers have come off righties, after he roped 27 a year ago with a .276 ISO. Lugo didn't give up a ton of home runs last season, but still had a 4.37 xFIP against lefty bats.
George Springer, HOU vs. BOS ($24): It may be worthwhile to use every Astro against Drew Pomeranz, but I didn't want this article to be boring. The lefty hasn't made it more than four innings in his last three starts and has a miserable 6.75 ERA with 2.19 HR/9. A lot of Springer's power comes against southpaws already with five homers in 55 at-bats after blasting a .248 ISO last season.
