DraftKings MLB: Wednesday Picks

DraftKings MLB: Wednesday Picks

This article is part of our DraftKings MLB series.

There isn't enough high-end pitching in Wednesday night's slate so everyone will have a decent amount of money for hitting. A good strategy for cash games will be to mix power bats with some cheaper, consistent middle infielders. Also, make sure to keep an eye on weather as rain is forecasted all day in Atlanta.

PITCHER

Rich Hill, LAD vs. MIL ($9,600): There aren't many places to go for pitching, but Hill will do with back-to-back solid starts. One of those came in Milwaukee where he had four walks, yet still reached 28 fantasy points because of nine strikeouts. The Brewers have been mediocre against southpaws since the beginning of June with a 21.6 K% and .316 wOBA.

GPP Fade: Cole Hamels, CHC at PIT ($7,900): Hamels's price is a bit outlandish considering he's given up 25 runs over his last five starts and pitching for the Cubs shouldn't change that. The Pirates are worse against lefties, but a solid .162 ISO in the last month could be troublesome for Hamels.

Cheap GPP Consideration: Luke Weaver, STL vs. COL ($7,000): Some will be turned off by Weaver because of the Rockies, but they strike out a ton and are worse away from Coors. In the last month against righties on the road, Colorado has a high 27.7 K% and worse than average .323 wOBA. Weaver is a slight favorite and has shown he can rack up strikeouts hitting at least seven Ks in three of his last six starts.

CATCHER

Omar Narvaez, CWS vs. KC ($3,400): Narvaez has turned into one of Chicago's best bats in July with a .304 ISO and .417 BABIP. His BABIP is up to .364 against righties for the season. Jakob Junis is struggling to get through lineups having failed to pitch more than 5.1 innings his last four times out. His .355 wOBA allowed and 1.75 HR/9 allowed to lefty bats aren't good, either.

FIRST BASE

Freddie Freeman, ATL vs. MIA ($5,100): Freeman's numbers are better against lefties this year, but that's abnormal for him. He's still solid against righty arms with a .191 ISO and .374 wOBA, just a bit below last year's .293 ISO and .422 wOBA. Pablo Lopez has been all over in his five major-league starts with a 5.34 ERA and 16 hits allowed to 61 lefties faced. If the forecast doesn't change in Atlanta, look to C.J. Cron ($4,300), who may have a little more home-run potential for cheaper.

SECOND BASE

Adalberto Mondesi, KC at CWS ($4,300): Mondesi is one of the reasons Kansas City has been a competent team over the last month with seven extra-base hits and a .400 BABIP in 65 plate appearances against righties. Dylan Covey randomly went 8.1 innings against the Mariners a couple starts ago, but has allowed at least four runs in six of his last seven outings. His .339 wOBA allowed to lefty bats is also below par.

THIRD BASE

David Freese, PIT vs. CHC ($4,100): Freese has been a quietly consistent bat for the Pirates this year in limited time, sporting a .353 wOBA after a .364 wOBA against southpaws in 2017. Cole Hamels is making his Cubs debut after getting roasted for seven runs in his last start with the Rangers. He's also allowed a miserable 2.00 HR/9 to righties.

SHORTSTOP

Jordy Mercer, PIT vs. CHC ($3,300): Mercer doesn't have much power, but he'll get on base against lefties with a .338 BABIP and that's enough to make value. Hamels continues to struggle against righty bats with a .348 wOBA allowed after that number wasn't much better last season at .324.

OUTFIELD

Ian Happ, CHC at PIT ($4,200): Happ's been stout against righties for most of the year with nine homers and 10 doubles to go with a .408 BABIP. This is a good spot to crack another homer as Nick Kingham is allowing one or two per game and has an ugly 2.57 HR/9 and 5.34 xFIP against lefty bats.

Jake Bauers, TB vs. LAA ($3,900): Cron is the best power bat to use for the Rays, but Bauers has been serviceable with 20 extra-base hits (6 HR) and a .252 ISO against righties. Nick Tropeano hasn't been good against either side of the plate, allowing five runs in three of his last four starts to go with a 2.05 HR/9 against lefties.

Rosell Herrera, KC at CWS ($3,600): Herrera is another KC switch-hitter that's given the team a recent boost. He has a .371 BABIP in 92 plate appearances against righty arms and faces a struggling Covey. The righty hurler gave up nine hits and six runs last start and has a 4.40 xFIP against lefty hitters.
