2024 Fantasy Outlook
Once again Allgaier would have a major brush with his first championship last season, but it just wasn't in the cards. The JR Motorsports veteran knocked out a four-win, 20 Top 10 season, but finished runner-up in the championship chase for the second time in the last four seasons. This driver and team have been dialed-in like aces for the last several years, but just lack the luck to pull off a championship. That could change in 2024. Jim Pohlman returns to crew chief this driver and team and look to build on what they accomplished in 2023. At 37-years-old, Allgaier is the elder statesman of the Xfinity Series, but there's been no detectable degradation in his skills. The driver of the No. 7 JRM Chevrolet has averaged three wins and 22 Top-10 finishes over the past four seasons. That's a very high level of performance for a long stretch. Read Past Outlooks
Third in Ambetter Health 302
XFINITY Series
October 19, 2024
Allgaier finished third in the Ambetter Health 302 Xfinity Series race at Las Vegas Motor Speedway Saturday evening.
ANALYSIS
The JR Motorsports veteran raced among the Top 5 all evening long at Las Vegas Motor Speedway. Allgaier would push into the lead for 42 laps and win stage 2. However, the driver of the No. 7 Chevrolet would fade a bit during stage 3 and slip to third-place by the checkered flag. It was Allgaier's eighth Top-5 finish of the season.

The 12-season veteran has been a fixture in the Top 5 of the Xfinity Series for years now. Allgaier just completed a three-win 23 Top-10 finish campaign that saw him race for the championship in the season finale and finish third-place in the final standings. The elusive Xfinity Series championship still evades this driver and team, but 2023 could be the season where Allgaier breaks through to championship glory. At 36-years-old he's showing no signs of slowing down anytime soon. Allgaier returns to JRM and the No. 7 team, but he'll be teamed with a new crew chief this season. Jim Pohlman takes over for Jason Burdett atop the team's war wagon and the two will look to develop chemistry quickly. Allgaier's 400+ starts in the Xfinity Series and 19 victories make him a legacy driver in this division of NASCAR.
The Xfinity Series' top veteran driver did not disappoint in 2021. Allgaier collected two victories and 24 Top-10 finishes, but fell short of the championship race by just one spot in the standings. The JR Motorsports veteran continued to build on one of the more impressive Xfinity Series resumes in recent history. Now with 16-career wins and well over 200 Top-10 finishes, Allgaier is still seeking that elusive championship. But there's little doubt about his abilities and his potential to pack the statistical sheet each season. He'll return to the No. 7 JRM Chevrolet in 2022 and once again pair with crew chief Jason Burdett. The duo should have another multi-win season and 20+ Top-10 performance up their sleeves. Whether it's enough to win the championship will depend on Allgaier's performance in those crucial final two races of the season.
Allgaier once again proved to be the top veteran driver in a division of NASCAR that just continues to get younger. The 10-season veteran posted a typical campaign in 2020 with three wins and 19 Top-10 finishes. Allgaier was a little inconsistent at the start of last season, and that diminished his Top 10 totals somewhat, but he still finished the season strong and contended for the championship right up until the last race. The JR Motorsports star will look to improve on last season's campaign and once again battle for his first-ever Xfinity Series title. Allgaier's No. 7 Chevrolet team will once again be headed up by Jason Burdett atop the tool box, and sponsorship looks solid for another season. At just 34-years-old, there's still a lot of great racing left in Allgaier, and he should once again challenge the three-win, 20+ Top-10 plateau.
With the promotion of several prodigy Xfinity Series drivers to NASCAR's Cup Series this season, Allgaier stands out as the experienced veteran ready to take the spot light. He found victory lane hard to come by with Christopher Bell, Tyler Reddick and Cole Custer around, but he should resume being one of the drivers to beat each week with the new-look Xfinity Series driver field. The JR Motorsports veteran racked up 16 Top-5 and 24 Top-10 finishes last season. He'll once again be paired with crew chief Jason Burdett, and the two will become the front runners for the championship. We could easily see Allgaier return to the form that saw him win five races in 2018. His first Xfinity Series championship is a real possibility in 2020.
Although he faded down the stretch and failed to race for the championship at Homestead, Allgaier is coming of an incredible season in many respects. He set career-best marks with five wins and 17 Top-5 finishes last year. Only some late-season inconsistency in the playoffs would prevent Allgaier from racing for the championship. The JR Motorsports veteran returns for a ninth season of Xfinity Series racing and he will once again pilot the JRM No. 7 Chevrolet Camaro. It will be hard for the 32-year-old to top his numbers from last season, but we expect Allgaier to come very close and stay relevant in the championship picture once again.
Allgaier has really found his place racing in the Xfinity Series. The seven-season veteran nabbed a career-best two victories in 2017, and collected 17 Top-10 finishes en route to finishing third in the driver standings. It was the third consecutive season of racing that led to a Top-5 points finish for Little Gator. While the championship still seems tantalizingly out of reach, we can't count him and the No. 7 team out. The 31-year-old has reached the 240-start plateau and Allgaier's now becoming one of the more seasoned drivers in the series. He has the ability to win races and challenge for championship. With returning crew chief Jason Burdett at his side, Allgaier will remain among the top tier of driver in the Xfinity Series this season.
Allgaier had easily his best season to-date in the Xfinity Series in 2016. The 30-year-old veteran posted career-best marks in Top 5's with 13 and Top 10's with 27. The performance allowed him to participate in the final, four-driver championship round of the Chase at Homestead. Allgaier would come up short of the championship, but he would serve notice that he'll be a contender to win the title going forward. The JRM driver returns to the No. 7 Chevrolet team this season and it appears he'll be teamed with crew chief Jason Burdett once again. While Allgaier lacks the speed and skill to win multiple races, he does have the consistency in his driving skill to rack up bunces of Top-10 finishes. We expect him to collect many in 2017.
Allgaier moves back to the Xfinity Series after a brief, two-season cup of coffee in the Sprint Cup Series. This young driver struggled at NASCAR’s top level with a small race team, but he should rebound nicely with JRM in 2016. Allgaier takes over the strong No. 7 Chevrolet that Regan Smith piloted the last three years. Over that span Smith claimed five wins and 71 Top-10 finishes and had driver standings finishes of third-, second- and fourth-place. This has been a championship-contending team under Smith’s watch. We don’t expect Allgaier to elevate to that level of performance right away. Instead he’ll need a little time to develop chemistry with his new crew chief and team. However, a one-win, 18-to-20 Top-10 finish campaign is not out of the question.
Allgaier was a bit of a disappointment in 2012. Despite one victory and 19 Top-10 finishes, he fell to a disappointing sixth in the final driver standings. The No. 31 Turner Chevrolet was expected to challenge for the championship, but they did not in what was a very competitive field of teams last year. Allgaier returns and will be paired with new crew chief Scott Zipadelli. It could take the two some time to develop chemistry and the relationship to get the most out of Allgaier’s abilities. While the jury is out until that happens, it’s pretty safe to assume a similar performance for the 26-year-old Illinois native. Allgaier is at the leading edge of the tier “B” drivers in this series and poised to move into the “A” tier if the right things can happen.
