Overwhelmed in UFC debut
McVey lost to Brunno Ferreira via submission (armbar) at 3:35 of Round 1 at UFC 318 on Saturday in New Orleans.
ANALYSIS
Finally getting to make his UFC debut after two prior matchups were cancelled, McVey didn't show much, albeit it as a +440 underdog. He gave up an easy takedown and allowed Ferreira to step into full mount before grabbing ahold of his arm. The 26-year-old Minnesota native had won each of his previously six professional bouts, all via first-round stoppage. Ferreira is an awful tough opponent to face in a late-notice debut, however. It will be interesting to see how McVey fares his next time out, presumably with a full training camp under his belt.

Ewert fight off
McVey will not fight Christopher Ewert at UFC 317 on Saturday, according to Aaron Bronsteter of TSN.ca.
ANALYSIS
Unfortunately for McVey, the fight cancellation has to do with his opponent. Ewert weighed several pounds over the UFC's middleweight limit and was subsequently cut. It is too late for the UFC to find McVey a new opponent, leaving his next fight without a date.

Gets new opponent
McVey will now take on Christopher Ewert in a middleweight bout at UFC 317 in Las Vegas, per Nolan King of USA Today.
ANALYSIS
McVey was initially scheduled to take on Sedriques Dumas in his UFC debut, a fighter who's already fought in six bouts with the promotion and emerged with a 3-3 record. Now, he'll take on a fellow UFC debutant in Ewert, who boasts a 7-0 professional MMA record but accepts the fight with four days' notice.

UFC debut scheduled
McVey is scheduled to compete against fellow middleweight Sedriques Dumas at UFC 317 on June 28, per Marcel Dorff of Eurosport.nl.
ANALYSIS
McVey is a 26-year-old middleweight from St. Louis. Before signing with the UFC, he went 6-0 with six finishes split evenly between KO/TKOs and submissions. For the promotion, McVey's first opponent is looking to bounce back after a first-round TKO. Dumas may have been inconsistent since joining the UFC but has alternated wins and losses.
