Deiveson Figueiredo
Deus da Guerra

Brazil
Upset win in home country
Figueiredo defeated Montel Jackson via split decision (29-28, 28-29, 29-28) at UFC Fight Night on Saturday in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
ANALYSIS
Figueiredo had some troubles of late, dropping back-to-back main events to Cory Sandhagen and Petr Yan, but he got back in the W column here and did so as a hefty (+265) underdog. Giving up a ton of size to Jackson, Figgy made a point of trying to fight in tight. He landed a takedown in each of the first two rounds and was severely aided throughout by Jackson's low output on the feet. Figueiredo was clearly fading as the fight progressed, but in a three-round bout, he did enough earn all to pull the upset. There's really no reason to suggest the 37-year-old Brazilian can hang with the very best in the world at 135 pounds, but he's still a very valuable member of the roster capable of putting on strong performances such as this one.

Booked vs. Jackson
Figueiredo will take on Montel Jackson in a bantamweight bout at UFC Rio on October 11, per Marcel Dorff of Eurosport.nl.
ANALYSIS
Figueiredo is coming off two straight losses, most recently falling to Cory Sandhagen in the main event of a UFC card back on May 3. That dropped his record in the promotion to 13-5, and he'll now have to face a red-hot fighter in Jackson, who has won six straight bouts. Figueiredo gives up five inches of height and seven inches of reach to Jackson as well.

Another main event defeat
Figueiredo lost to Cory Sandhagen via TKO (injury) at 4:08 of Round 2 at UFC Fight Night on Saturday in Des Moines, Iowa.
ANALYSIS
Figueiredo suffered his first bantamweight defeat in a lopsided unanimous decision loss to Petr Yan in November. He got another main event slot here against an opponent just as good, if not better, than Yan, and the result was even worse. Figgy managed to survive Round 1 despite coming up on the short end of a 53-3 count in terms of total strikes landed. He was getting battered again in Round 2, at which point a knee injury led to the stoppage. He ended up needing help to get to the back. Figueiredo's best division is clearly flyweight, but he's now 37 years old, and he had problems making 125 pounds in his heyday. He'll almost certainly stick at bantamweight moving forward, at which point the UFC needs to be much more careful regarding who it matches him up against moving forward.

Booked versus Sandhagen
Figueiredo is set to fight Cory Sandhagen on May 3 at UFC Des Moines, Marcel Dorff of Eurosport.nl reports.
ANALYSIS
Figueiredo is coming off his first bantamweight loss to Petr Yan via unanimous decision in November, so his bout versus Sandhagen gives him the chance for a bounce back. Sandhagen also lost his last fight in August to Umar Nurmagomedov via unanimous decision. Figueiredo will need to overcome massive disadvantages in height (six inches) and reach (two inches).

Suffers first bantamweight loss
Figueiredo lost to Petr Yan via unanimous decision (45-50, 45-50, 45-50) at UFC Fight Night on Saturday in Macau, China.
ANALYSIS
Previously undefeated since moving up to bantamweight, Figueiredo quickly learned there's a significant gap between Yan and the likes of Cody Garbrandt, Rob Font, and even Marlon Vera. Figueiredo did manage to land two takedowns on eight attempts, but that was essentially his only offensive moments of the fight. The total strikes after five minutes were 42-1 in favor of Yan. The Brazilian was never going to outwork Yan in the championship rounds, so he had to make his move early on. It didn't happen. Figueiredo is talented enough to remain a fringe top-five guy even in a loaded bantamweight division, but the odds of the soon-to-be 37-year-old hanging with the best 135-pounders are small.

Scheduled against Yan
Figueiredo is scheduled to compete against Petr Yan in a bantamweight fight at UFC Macau on Nov. 23, per Mike Heck of MMA Fighting.
ANALYSIS
Since changing weight classes from flyweight to bantamweight, Figueiredo has gone 3-0, becoming a top-five contender at BW. Now, he has the chance to be a top-three contender, considering Yan is ranked No. 3. This will be a good litmus test for Figueiredo, considering all four of his opponent's UFC losses happened against eventual bantamweight champions in the promotion -- Aljamain Sterling (twice), Sean O'Malley and Merab Dvalishvili.
