Oliveira defeated Mateusz Gamrot via submission (face crank) at 2:48 of Round 2 at UFC Fight Night on Saturday in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
ANALYSIS
Oliveira continues his assault on the UFC record books. This was his 24th win with the company, second-most of all time. It was his 21st UFC finish and 17th submission, both of which are company records. He also earned a $50,000 Performance of the Night bonus for his efforts here. Originally scheduled to face Rafael Fiziev this evening, Charles handled his opponent change in stride. He dominated on the mat throughout, which wasn't surprising. Gamrot's greatest attribute is his wrestling, and that played directly into the all-world submission skills of Oliveira. Toss in the fact that Gamrot has limited power and is reckless on the feet, and it all set up beautifully for the Brazilian. Oliveira called out Max Holloway in his post-fight interview. Sign us up.

Oliveira will face Mateusz Gamrot in a lightweight bout at UFC Rio on Oct. 11, MMAFighting.com reports.
ANALYSIS
With Rafael Fiziev out due to an undisclosed injury, Gamrot will step in and aim to improve to 26-3-0 against Oliveira. The 35-year-old Brazilian is looking to bounce back after losing to Ilia Topuria via TKO (punches) in Round 1 at UFC 317 on June 28. Oliveira has lost two of his last three bouts dating back to April 2024 and holds a professional record of 35-11-0 (1 NC).
Taking on Fiziev in October

Oliveira will face Rafael Fiziev at UFC Rio on October 11, per Marcel Dorff of Eurosport.nl.
ANALYSIS
Oliveira will head into the fight looking to bounce back from his recent defeat at the hands of Ilia Topuria in June. The 35-year-old Brazilian will be looking to use advantages in both height and reach to take out the younger Kyrgyz fighter. Though the veteran has a positive record in KO/TKO finishes, the submission specialist will likely be looking to use the ground game to take down Fiziev while avoiding the Kyrgyz fighter's stopping power (8-2 professional record in KO/TKO finishes).
Trounced in title fight

Oliveira came up short in his quest for the vacant UFC Lightweight Championship on Saturday, falling to Ilia Topuria via KO (punches) at 2:27 of Round 1 at UFC 317 in Las Vegas.
ANALYSIS
Oliveira will be 36 years of age in October and entered having alternated wins and losses in his past five fights. He's clearly a threat in there, but he's not in the prime of his career any more. That said, he's still an elite fighter and hadn't been knocked out since December 2017. So, while few were picking him to actually win, it's surprising Topuria, even with his elite power, was able to put Charles away so quickly. All it took was a quick one-two combination and Oliveira was out cold. This result is more indicative of Topuria being a potential all-time great as opposed to anything Charles did wrong. The Brazilian's legacy is secured, even if this was likely his final shot at UFC gold.
Welcoming Topuria to lightweight

Oliveira will face Ilia Topuria at UFC 317 on June 28 in a lightweight bout, Marcel Dorff of Eurosport.nl reports.
ANALYSIS
The lightweight division is one of the most competitive ones in the sport, but Oliveira remains an elite-level talent, though he'll probably have his hands full with Topuria. That said, Oliveira owns an impressive 13-2 record over his last 15 fights, and he's coming off an impressive win over Michael Chandler on Nov. 16 last year in the last time he stepped into the octagon.
Again bests Michael Chandler

Oliveira defeated Michael Chandler via unanimous decision (49-46, 49-46, 49-45) at UFC 309 on Saturday in New York City.
ANALYSIS
It was another excellent effort from Oliveira against another elite opponent. Fighting Chandler for the first time since May 2021, Charles dominated for four rounds, pitching a shutout on the scorecards. He landed the more damaging blows on the feet and constantly got to his trademark grappling game. All told, Oliveira landed 5-of-12 takedown attempts, a new career-best mark. He closed with 14:52 worth of control time. Yet, it all nearly came crashing down in Round 5 when one huge Chandler blow resulted in Oliveira finding himself in a vulnerable position on the mat. Mike fired off everything he had left, but Charles managed to survive and eventually turn the tables, riding his way to the final bell. It was an epic encounter on multiple fronts that would go on to earn both men $50,000 Fight of the Night bonuses. Oliveira turned 35 years of age in October, but has shown zero signs of slowing down. He's still firmly in the title conversation in the loaded lightweight division.
