2025 Fantasy Outlook
Power took another step forward in his third full NHL campaign, reaching the 40-point mark (seven goals, 33 assists) for the first time. He did that with just six power-play points to his name, and he added 109 blocked shots and a minus-13 rating over 79 appearances. Power, the No. 1 overall pick in 2021, has plenty of promise, but it looks like he'll be in the shadow of Rasmus Dahlin as long as both of them are in Buffalo. However, Power is still just 22 years old, so he has plenty of time to grow into more responsibility and the uptick in production that comes with it. Power is a solid choice to round out a fantasy blue line in 2025-26, and the lower-body injury that ended his 2024-25 campaign in mid-April isn’t expected to linger into the new campaign. A return to the 40-point mark is the expectation. Read Past Outlooks

October 9, 2025
Power (illness) won't play in Thursday's tilt against the Rangers.
ANALYSIS
Power was put on injured reserve Monday due to a muscle strain. He was originally slated to play Thursday, but the Sabres are now reporting that he's day-to-day because of an illness. It's not clear if Power has recovered from his strain or if he's still dealing with that in addition to the illness. Either way, his next opportunity to play will be Saturday in Boston.

Although Power was taken with the No. 1 overall pick in the 2021 NHL Draft, he's more of a two-way defenseman rather than an offensive blueliner, and he consequently doesn't have the same level of fantasy appeal as other top picks. That's especially true in Buffalo, where Power's power-play ice time is limited by the presence of defensemen Rasmus Dahlin and Bowen Byram. The 21-year-old Power is still good for 30-40 points, though, and he's also likely to block over 100 shots for the second straight campaign. Just don't expect him to see a massive jump in offensive production during his third full NHL season.
Power entered his first full season in the NHL amid the high expectations that come with being a No. 1 overall pick, and he played well under that pressure, recording four goals, 35 points, a plus-10 rating, 27 hits and 86 blocked shots in 79 contests while averaging 23:48 of ice time. Power still has plenty of growing to do, but that's a point of optimism rather than condemnation when discussing a defenseman who is just 20 years old. He's a lock to serve in a top-four spot, and it wouldn't be surprising to see him push past the 40-point mark in 2023-24. The only limiting factor is the presence of Rasmus Dahlin, which might keep Power off the top power-play unit most nights.
The No. 1 overall pick in the 2021 draft, Power completed his sophomore season at the University of Michigan before stepping right into the Sabres' lineup in mid-April. He played the final eight games for the club, posting two goals and three points while averaging 22:05 of ice time per game. Power is a legitimate two-way horse who should be an impact player in all three zones, perhaps as soon as this coming year. He may never post more than 40-plus points in any single season, but the all-around package here should be enough for Power to carve out some fantasy value, especially as Buffalo improves as a team in coming seasons.

Available for Thursday?
DBuffalo Sabres
October 8, 2025
Power, who is on injured reserve due to a muscle strain, might be available for Buffalo's season opener against the Rangers on Thursday after being eligible for contact during Wednesday's practice, Mike Harrington of The Buffalo News reports.
ANALYSIS
Power had seven goals and 40 points in 79 appearances with Buffalo in 2024-25. If Power is available, then he's likely to get top-four minutes and a role on the power play. Jacob Bryson might draw into the lineup Thursday in the event that Power needs more time to recover.
