2025 Fantasy Outlook
Heiskanen suffered a long-term knee injury in January that kept him out until the second round of the playoffs. Even when healthy, it was a down year for the do-it-all defenseman, who had just 25 points in 50 regular-season contests. His 0.5 points-per-game pace was his lowest in four years, and it's possible Heiskanen won't be the top offensive defenseman for the Stars anymore since Thomas Harley has emerged as an excellent scorer from the blue line. Heiskanen still plays a massive role thanks to his defensive skill set, and he's likely due for a bounce-back on offense, as he hasn't matched the highs of his 73-point effort in 2022-23 or the 54-point season that followed it in 2023-24. He may come at a discount in drafts this fall due to the lengthy absence he had, and savvy fantasy managers will be willing to take the risk on him given his track record. Read Past Outlooks
Nets pair of goals in win
Heiskanen scored twice on three shots and blocked three shots in Saturday's 3-2 win over the Hurricanes.
ANALYSIS
Heiskanen took advantage of a couple of deflections to get his first two goals of the year. The first got the Stars on the board early in the second period, and the second was a power-play tally in the third that stood as the game-winner. Through eight contests, Heiskanen has four points, 22 shots on net, 14 blocked shots and an even plus-minus rating. He hasn't been bad -- just a little quiet. Saturday's effort could get his offense on track, but his defensive acumen makes him a lock for heavy minutes in a top-four role.

Heiskanen's defensive game gets plenty of love, but his offense took a step back from 73 points in 2022-23 to 54 points last year. Part of that came from a 13-point decline (34 to 21) on the power play. Heiskanen can skate with anyone in the league and has good shutdown instincts. The Finnish defenseman should continue to eat a ton of minutes, but with many of them being in his own zone, his offense will often be in the very good tier rather than great or elite. The emergence of Thomas Harley could also lead to a smaller power-play role for Heiskanen, though they were paired together at even strength for the second half of last season. The floor is set at about 50 points for Heiskanen, and he could very well deliver in the range of 60-70 if he bounces back in 2024-25.

Latest Fantasy Rumors
Might play Tuesday
According to Nick Kypreos of Sportsnet, there is a "strong indication" that Heiskanen, who has been contending with a knee injury, could receive medical clearance to return to the lineup for Game 4 against the Jets on Tuesday.
ANALYSIS
The last time Heiskanen appeared in a game was Jan. 28 versus the Golden Knights, so even if he suits up Tuesday, it's possible he plays in a limited role. Thomas Harley has managed 3:33 of power-play ice time per game through 10 postseason outings, so it remains to be seen if Heiskanen will retain his spot on the No. 1 power-play unit right away. Heiskanen has an excellent track record in his postseason career with 16 goals and 61 points over 85 appearances.
