NHL Betting Overview Wednesday Night Key Odds Insights
Edmonton Oilers
at Washington Capitals
The Oilers (9-8-4) and Capitals (9-8-2) meet at Capital One Arena in the nation's capital on Wednesday night at 7 p.m. ET in the front end of the TNT/HBO Max doubleheader.
Edmonton is making the fifth stop on a seven-game road trip, which will wrap up Thursday and Saturday at Tampa Bay and Florida. Since a 9-1 shellacking on home ice on Nov. 8, the Oilers have won three games in five outings, and each of the victories has come in overtime, while four of the five games have been decided by a single goal.
The Oilers were slapped around 5-1 in Buffalo on Monday, as Stuart Skinner allowed four goals on 27 shots, and only Jack Roslovic was able to find the back of the net. It was tied 1-1 early in the second, and Skinner had only allowed a power-play goal late in the first period after a high-sticking call on Connor McDavid. However, two goals within 62 seconds midway through the second broke Skinner, and Edmonton allowed four straight goals.
Washington had a nice 2-1 win Monday night, cooling off the red-hot Los Angeles Kings behind Charlie Lindgren, as the Under (5.5) cashed. Matt Roy opened the scoring at 3:41 of the first period, and Alex Ovechkin posted a goal at 1:51 of the second, and that goal stood up as the game-winning tally, with helpers to Jakob Chychrun and Connor McMichael. Lindgren's only blemish was a power-play goal allowed late in the second on a slashing call to Dylan Strome.
The Capitals are 2-1-1 in the past four games, as they've started to pull it together after a 1-5-1 skid from Oct. 25 to Nov. 8. Defense and goaltending have been a big part of the turnaround, allowing three or fewer goals in four of the past five outings, with the Under going 4-1 in that span.
Skinner (7-5-3, 2.86 GAA, .887 save percentage, 1 SO) is projected to start for Edmonton, while Logan Thompson (7-5-1, 1.85 GAA, .924 save percentage) is expected to be in the crease for Washington.
Washington swept the season series in 2024-25, and it has won four of the past six meetings. The over is 3-1 in the past four meetings in D.C., but we'll lean low based on Thompson starting. He has been money in net. And, let's side with the Caps to carry over momentum from Monday's win over L.A.

- Under 6 Goals (-110 at Bet365 and BetMGM Sportsbooks)

Carolina Hurricanes
at Minnesota Wild
The Hurricanes (13-5-1) travel to the Twin Cities to battle the Wild (9-7-4) in the second stop of a five-game sojourn, which wraps up Sunday in Buffalo.
Carolina got off on the right foot with a 3-1 win in Boston on Monday behind Pyotr Kochetkov, who stopped 29 of the 30 shots he faced. Jordan Staal, Mark Jankowski and Taylor Hall scored goals, staking Koochie to a 3-0 lead, and the shutout was ruined with 10 seconds left thanks to a power-play goal.
The Hurricanes have picked up 13 points out of a possible 16 in the past eight games, going 6-1-1. Carolina has won three in a row on the road, too, while the Over is 5-2 in the past seven outings.
For the Wild, they stopped the Golden Knights 3-2 in overtime Sunday, and they're 4-0-1 in the past five games, with the most recent regulation loss coming in a 4-3 setback in Raleigh in the first meeting with the Canes.
Minnesota and Carolina had a "wild" first period in the first meeting, with Carolina taking a 3-2 lead to the room. The teams combined for four goals in a four-game span late in the period. The teams scored two goals in the first minute of the second, then the offensive spigot was turned off, but the scoring was good enough for all Over bettors.
Minnesota is 6-3-3 in 12 home games this season, while Carolina is 7-3-0 on the road. We could see another similar game to the first meeting, which means rather close. If you can get the Wild at -180 or less on the puck line, do that for some insurance, but don't go any higher. And, let's bank on the Over again.
