Tuesday's NHL featured slate begins at 7:00 p.m. EST and includes eight games. Below, you'll find suggested options for crafting an effective lineup.
SLATE PREVIEW
There are plenty of heavy favorites to build around in this slate, highlighted by the Lightning in Detroit but also including the Flyers (vs. Buffalo), Hurricanes (vs. Nashville) and Capitals (vs. New Jersey). The Maple Leafs are solid home favorites against Winnipeg in the game with the night's highest over/under (6.5 goals), and Bruins-Islanders, Panthers-Blue Jackets and Blackhawks-Stars matchups round out this slate.
GOALIES
Andrei Vasilevskiy, TB at DET ($8,400): Vasilevskiy should be the chalk goalie play against the league-worst Detroit offense (2.08 goals per game). He's the leading candidate for the Vezina Trophy, with a dominant 15-3-1 record, 1.73 GAA and .939 save percentage.
Carter Hart, PHI vs. BUF ($8,300): Hart has struggled this year, but he had a 28-save shutout the last time these two teams met, and a repeat effort is certainly possible against a Sabres team that's bringing up the rear in the league standings. Buffalo's an abhorrent 1-12-1 in its last 14 games, including shutout losses to the Flyers in both of their meetings during this awful stretch, with both Hart and Brian Elliott holding them without a goal.
Kevin Lankinen, CHI at DAL ($7,500): Lankinen went winless in two games against the Lightning in his last two outings, but he's still 9-4-4 with a 2.76 GAA and .919 save percentage overall. He should get back on track against a Stars team that has won only twice in its last 13 games, making Lankinen a solid value option in net.
VALUE PLAYS/ONE-OFFS
Alex Ovechkin, WAS vs. NJ ($8,300): Ovechkin is third all time with 262 power-play goals, 12 shy of Dave Andreychuk's all-time record and three from Brett Hull's second-place mark. He has potted only two goals on the power play this season, but Ovechkin's likely to pick the pace up before long considering he has come up short of 13 only once in 15 previous seasons. He gets an ideal opportunity to find his groove on the power play here against the Devils' league-worst penalty kill (65.1 percent).
Joe Pavelski, DAL vs. CHI ($6,400): Pavelski has been one of the few recent bright spots for the struggling Stars, as he has power play goals in each of the last two games and leads the league with 10 such tallies. His success with the extra man should continue against Chicago's bottom-five, 72.5 percent penalty kill.
Paul Stastny, WPG at TOR ($3,800): The Jets laid a collective egg in their 7-1 loss to Montreal last time out, but Stastny had been arguably the team's hottest forward coming into that one, with three goals in the previous two games and four goals in the previous four. Fitting in seamlessly as a top-line wing and skating on the top power-play unit, the natural center's a nice value play in what should be a high-scoring matchup.
Auston Matthews, TOR vs. WPG ($9,200): Matthews is scoreless on 15 shots in three games since returning from a wrist injury, but the league's leading goal scorer with 18 in 23 games won't be held down for much longer. You'll want Matthews in your lineup when he finally breaks out of this little slump, and that could well happen here against a Jets team that's been outscored 16-10 in its last four games.
Noel Acciari, FLA at CLS ($2,500): If you're a believer in riding the hot hand, then Acciari's the man for you. After starting the season on a 14-game point drought, he finally broke out with a hat trick Saturday and added a helper Sunday. He scored 20 points in 66 games last season, so Acciari has the offensive altitude to keep this hot streak going against a Blue Jackets team that's allowing 3.19 goals per game.
FORWARD LINE STACKS
Flyers vs. Sabres
Sean Couturier (C - $7,100), James van Riemsdyk (W - $6,900), Joel Farabee (W - $6,100)
Philadelphia's top line should dominate a reeling Sabres team that has lost six consecutive games in regulation while getting outscored 24-8 in the process. That skid includes a pair of 3-0 losses to Philadelphia, during which this trio combined for eight points. Overall, van Riemsdyk leads the Flyers with 26 points in 22 games, and his seven power-play goals are tied for second in the league. Farabee's second on the team with 20 points in 21 games, and he's one ahead of JVR for the team goals lead with 11. Couturier has missed some time, but he's been tremendous on a per-game basis, with a 6-8-14 line in just 12 appearances.
Lightning at Red Wings
Yanni Gourde (C - $4,200), Steven Stamkos (W - $7,500), Alex Killorn (W - $5,000)
This line features Tampa Bay's highest-scoring forward coupled with its two hottest forwards, and it should wreak havoc on a Red Wings team that's getting outscored 3.35 to 2.08 on average. Stamkos leads the Lightning with 11 goals in 21 games, and he's two points shy of Victor Hedman's team-leading 24, though Stamkos has played two fewer games. Gourde's coming off a two-goal, two-assist performance against the Blackhawks and has a 3-3-6 line in his last four games, while Killorn has a three-game goal streak rolling and a 3-2-5 line in that stretch. Both Gourde and Killorn have 15 points overall.
Hurricanes vs. Predators
Jordan Staal (C - $5,200), Andrei Svechnikov (W - $6,000), Jesper Fast (W - $3,800)
Carolina's second line features two of the team's top four scorers in Staal and Svechnikov, who boast identical 8-12-20 lines through 22 and 24 games, respectively. They both have nine power-play points as well and skate on the top extra-man unit, and those prominent roles could be key against Nashville's bottom-three, 70.2 percent penalty kill. Fast's a solid value option on this line, with a 3-6-9 line in 19 appearances, including three points with the second power-play unit.
DEFENSEMEN
Victor Hedman, TB at DET ($7,000): Hedman leads the Lightning in points, playing just above a point-per-game pace with 24 in 23. He's riding a four-game point streak at the moment and is this slate's go-to blue line option given the favorable matchup.
Shayne Gostisbehere, PHI vs. BUF ($4,700): All three of Gostisbehere's goals this season have come in the past seven games, including one against the last-place Sabres. He also has 29 shots in the last seven games, so the former 65-point scorer is rediscovering his offensive form. The deflated Sabres are unlikely to slow his roll.
Justin Schultz, WAS vs. NJ ($3,600): If you can't afford John Carlson ($6,100), Schultz is a solid consolation prize on the Capitals' blue line. Of Schultz's nine points in 20 games, four have come in his role on the second power-play unit, making the one-time 51-point scorer a solid option to round out your lineup here.
Noah Dobson, NYI vs. BOS ($3,400): This is expected to be a low-scoring affair, but so was the last meeting between these teams, which the Islanders won 7-2 on Feb. 25. Dobson had a point in that one, and he has points in each of the last three games, as the offensively gifted blueliner is coming into his own at age 21. The 12th overall pick from the 2018 draft should only get better from here, so grab him at just $3,400 while you still can.
