DraftKings NHL: Sunday Breakdown

DraftKings NHL: Sunday Breakdown

This article is part of our DraftKings NHL series.

SLATE PREVIEW

There are seven games in the later slate that starts at 5 p.m. EST. There aren't many headliner goalies taking the ice, so almost every option will feel like a contrarian play. Picking the right one will be vital. There should be plenty of offense as a result. Notable favorites include the Avalanche, the Blues and the Hurricanes, and we'll be targeting all three in some fashion for Sunday's DFS contests.

GOALIES

Hunter Miska, COL at MIN ($7,800): Miska's poised to start in the blue paint after Philipp Grubauer won Saturday's game against the Wild. The 25-year-old struggled in his lone start this season, but he was excellent in the AHL last season. He's a high-risk play, but it's worth rolling the dice in this scenario, as the Wild rank 19th in the league with 2.78 GF/GP.

James Reimer, CAR vs. DAL ($7,700): Reimer relieved an injured Petr Mrazek on Saturday and stopped 10 of 11 shots to secure his second win of the season. The 32-year-old likely will get the second leg of the back-to-back, and the matchup against the Stars continues to be favorable, as they sit last in the league with 1.5 xGF/60.

Kevin Lankinen, CHI vs. CBJ ($7,600): Lankinen came out of nowhere and won the starting role this season in true Jordan Binnington fashion. He sports a .930 save percentage and a 2-1-2 record through five games. The lack of offensive support is concerning, but he's set up well for personal success against Columbus' stagnant offense.

VALUE PLAYS

Travis Konecny, PHI vs. NYI ($5,100): Konecny will re-enter the lineup after being a healthy scratch Saturday. It's not often that a player with five goals and eight points through eight games is scratched, so Konecny should come back with a vengeance. And Semyon Varlamov isn't expected to start a second straight night, so the scoring opportunity is prime.

Kailer Yamamoto, EDM vs. OTT ($4,700): Yamamoto has been a staple in the top six this season, enjoying a rich supporting cast and recording six points through 10 games. He shouldn't have trouble keeping it rolling against Ottawa's brutal defensive play.

Jordan Kyrou, STL at ANH ($3,800): Kyrou is breaking out, and he left no doubt in Saturday's win, notching two goals and a helper. The 22-year-old is lightning quick and has a wicked wrist shot, and he's finally getting the minutes to produce consistently.

LINE STACKS

Oilers vs. Senators

Connor McDavid (C- $8,500), Jesse Puljujarvi (W - $4,200), Ryan Nugent-Hopkins (W - $7,500)

If you haven't seen McDavid's goal from last night, look it up. He scored two, but only one went viral, and you'll know it when you see it. When McDavid erupts, you can't afford to miss him in DFS formats. And he's set up for extreme success against the Senators' pitiful defensive and goaltending situations that have allowed 4.5 goals per game.

Avalanche at Wild

Nathan MacKinnon (C - $8,600), Mikko Rantanen (W - $8,200), Gabriel Landeskog (W - $7,700)

This line stacked up five points in Saturday's win over the Wild, and they'll look to keep it rolling in Sunday's rematch. Cam Talbot likely will get the nod coming off injury. He's been solid this season with a .925 save percentage, but that was against the Ducks, Sharks and Kings. The Avalanche are a different beast.

Hurricanes vs. Stars

Sebastian Aho (C - $5,800), Andrei Svechnikov (W - $6,200), Brock McGinn (W - $2,600)

Aho and Svechnikov combined for a goal and two helpers in Saturday's 4-1 win over the Stars, chasing Anton Khudobin from the net in the second period. It's unclear who will get the start for the Stars on Sunday, but it's either an inexperienced Jake Oettinger or a rattled Khudobin. Regardless, this is one of the best offenses around.

Senators at Oilers

Joshua Norris (C - $5,000), Drake Batherson (W - $4,400), Brady Tkachuk (W - $7,300)

Norris continues to prove he can play on the top line, showcasing a strong two-way game and impressive skating ability. The trio has produced 14 points -- seven on the power play -- through eight games. Their offense continues to work well, but the Oilers' defense has been dysfunctional, ranking 21st with 2.25 xGA/60. Plus, the Sens are contrarian by nature.

DEFENSEMEN

Cale Makar, COL at MIN ($6,500): The young blueliner has put up 10 points -- six on the power play -- through nine games, and he'll face the Wild for the second time in as many days. The Wild are fine on the PK, but the Avalanche have the firepower to overcome that, making Makar a solid stack to go along with the forwards mentioned above.

Keith Yandle, FLA at DET ($4,800): There's undoubtedly a chip on Yandle's shoulder after trade rumors (and healthy scratch rumors) floated in the preseason, as he's accrued four points -- three on the power play -- through five games. Look for Yandle to keep it rolling against the Detroit's league-worst PK.

Ryan Pulock, NYI at PHI ($4,900): Pulock has just one point through the first eight games, but he blocks shots at a high rate and handles ample power-play time. He'll get plenty of chances against the Flyers, too, as they've recorded 2.28 xGA/60 this year -- the eighth-most in the league.
