This article is part of our DraftKings NHL series.
The last day of February is a light slate for the NHL. Only six teams are in action. The first two games start at 7:30 p.m. ET. Here are a few recommendations for your DFS lineups.
SLATE PREVIEW
We've got one team on the back-to-back Monday in the Canucks, who are in New Jersey after facing the Rangers on Saturday. There's also a real lack of goaltending quality. That's good for the forward and defense choices, but there is genuinely only one goalie I had any real consideration for in my lineup.
GOALIE
Jeremy Swayman, BOS at LOS ($8,300): Honestly, Swayman doesn't even have a great matchup himself. The Bruins are on the road, and the Kings are 16th in goals per game. That being said, Swayman has a 2.04 GAA and .926 save percentage. The Bruins also have only allowed 29.1 shots on net per game. All things consider, Swayman stands head and shoulders above the rest Monday.
VALUE PLAYS
Elias Pettersson, VAN at NJD ($4,400): Pettersson had four multi-point games in a row, followed by one point Sunday, lifting him to 38 points in 54 games. Yeah, he's put his slow start far behind him. Even on the second day of a back-to-back I like the Swede in this matchup. The Devils have a 3.60 GAA, third highest in the NHL.
Tom Wilson, WAS vs. TOR ($4,300): Wilson has a couple of 20-goal seasons to his name, and this year he has 15 goals in 50 outings. He also has 19 assists for good measure. Jack Campbell was playing great earlier this season, but he's fallen off a cliff. Over his last 13 games he has a 3.91 GAA and .876 save percentage. "What about Petr Mrazek?" you might ask? Well he has a 3.97 GAA and .894 save percentage.
LINE STACK TO CONSIDER
Devils vs. Canucks: Jack Hughes (C - $6,000), Yegor Sharangovich (W - $4,200), Dawson Mercer (W - $2,900)
As I have noted, the Canucks are on the road for the second game of a back-to-back. Thatcher Demko has had a solid season, but Jaroslav Halak has a 2.93 GAA and .899 save percentage. The Canucks also have the league's worst penalty kill. All three of these guys see some time on the New Jersey power play, and they also comprise the first line for the team.
Hughes is looking like the prospect that was promised when he was drafted first overall. He has 36 points in 32 games. Quinn's brother has a point in 11 of his last 12 contests, and on the power play he's totaled nine points this season. Sharangovich doesn't so much on the power play, but he does have a six-game point streak, and at least one point in seven of his last eight games. The rookie Mercer has 12 goals and 17 assists in 52 games. Of course, he wasn't always playing on the first line. Over his last six games he has three goals and three assists.
DEFENSE
Charlie McAvoy, BOS at LOS ($5,500): McAvoy has taken on a huge role on the power play, having averaged 3:07 per game with the extra man. Overall he's tallied 15 points with the extra man. While the Kings don't allow a lot of shots, they have a bottom-five penalty kill. McAvoy can take advantage of that.
Damon Severson, NJD vs. VAN ($4,300): Though Dougie Hamilton has returned, Severson has nine points in his last seven games. He's been helped by the fact he hasn't ceded a spot on the top power-play unit just yet. Hopefully that continues to be the case Sunday, as he'll be facing the league's worth penalty kill.
