2024 Fantasy Outlook
The Bears moved on from Justin Fields this offseason, but they kept his No. 2 in Bagent, who will back up rookie Caleb Williams this season. A 2023 undrafted free agent, Bagent played five games, including four starts, last year when Fields was injured. He completed 65.7 percent of his attempts, mostly because he checked down so often. His 5.8-yard average target depth ranked 43rd among 44 quarterbacks with at least 140 attempts, and his YPA was a 6.0 (39th). The Bears' poor supporting cast didn't help matters. That’s not the case this season after the Bears traded for WR Keenan Allen, drafted WR Rome Odunze ninth overall and signed RB D’Andre Swift to join No. 1 WR DJ Moore and TE Cole Kmet. Bagent has rushing upside (109 yards, two TDs last season) and should hold off free-agent acquisition Brett Rypien for the backup job. Read Past Outlooks
RANKS
Starts HOF Game win
Bagent started the Bears' 21-17 preseason win over the Texans on Thursday, completing two of three passes for 16 yards.
ANALYSIS
As his modest final line implies, Bagent, who's thought to have the inside track to the No. 2 job, made only a cameo appearance. The second-year pro played on the Bears' first possession and recorded his two completions to Roschon Johnson and Stephen Carlson. Brett Rypien, Bagent's competition to serve as the primary backup to first overall pick Caleb Williams, saw the bulk of playing time in the weather-shortened game and excelled in a three-touchdown performance, so Bagent will likely have to perform well in any more extensive action he may see the remainder of preseason to ensure he keeps his presumptive lead in the job battle.

2023 Fantasy Outlook
Bagent was an undrafted free agent the Bears acquired after the 2023 draft. Both PJ Walker and Nathan Peterman had unimpressive training camps. As a result, Bagent enters the season as the No. 2 QB behind Just Fields. Bagent is considered a developmental project, so if Fields had to miss time, it's possible the Bears would add a veteran backup. Regardless, Chicago saw enough positives from Bagent that they kept him on the regular season roster.

Latest Fantasy Rumors
No. 2 job not locked in
Bagent slots in as the Bears' No. 2 quarterback entering training camp but is far from guaranteed to keep the job, Kevin Patra of NFL.com suggests.
ANALYSIS
Patra expresses surprise that the Bears haven't opted to add a steady veteran presence to serve as an insurance policy and mentor to first overall pick Caleb Williams, who's set to start immediately. Bagent was serviceable in fill-in action last season, making five appearances as a rookie and completing 65.7 percent of his passes while scoring five total touchdowns and tossing six interceptions. With such limited experience and fifth-year pro Brett Rypien having proven to be highly inconsistent during his 10 career games, Patra opines the Bears may ultimately conclude neither quarterback is trustworthy enough as Williams' immediate backup and instead opt to bring in a free agent such as Ryan Tannehill.
