The Steelers activated Alualu (undisclosed) off the active/PUP list Monday.
ANALYSIS
Alualu missed all but two games last season due to a fractured ankle, but it remains unclear if that issue and his placement on the PUP list to start training camp had any correlation. Regardless, now that the 35-year-old veteran is healthy, he'll look to reclaim his spot on the interior of Pittsburgh's defensive line. Before his injury last season, the 2010 first-round pick had appeared in all but two regular-season games over his prior four campaigns with the Steelers.

Alualu sustained a fractured ankle in 2021 and missed all but two games as a result, but he should serve as the Steelers' starting nose tackle if he's healthy to begin the 2022 season. The 35-year-old appeared in 15 games in 2020 and logged 38 tackles (17 solo), two sacks, a forced fumble and five pass defenses.
Alualu initially agreed to a contract with the Jaguars during the offseason, but he ultimately signed a two-year deal to return to Pittsburgh. The 34-year-old should enter the season as the starting nose tackle after he totaled 38 tackles (17 solo), five pass breakups and two sacks across 15 games in 2020.
The former first-round pick will compete with Michael Bennett, Roy Miller and Sen’Derrick Marks for snaps in what should be an improved Jacksonville front four.
Alualu re-signed with the Jaguars this offseason and will be a member of the team's defensive line rotation.
Alualu, the Jaguars' first-round pick in 2010, will compete with new arrival Red Bryant for playing time on the defensive line. His production will likely take a step back, reflecting the probable decline in playing time.
Alualu will make the move to defensive end this season, where the Jaguars hope to take advantage of his versatile skill set. The team's first-round pick in 2010 posted a solid 45 tackles (34 solo) and 3.5 sacks last season, but could stand to improve those numbers by returning to the position he excelled at in college.
Alualu is primed for his best season in Jacksonville after undergoing offseason knee surgery to correct an issue that's plagued him throughout his time in the pros. The former Golden Bear isn't going to post gaudy stats, but he and Terrace Knighton should team up to continue to form a tandem that wreaks havoc in the middle of the Jacksonville defense.
Alualu will start from Day 1 at defensive tackle.

Alualu would like to re-sign with the Steelers for 2023, Noah Strackbein of SI.com reports.
ANALYSIS
The 36-year-old defensive tackle has spent the last six seasons in Pittsburgh, but after seeing limited snaps over 17 games last year, Alualu remains unsigned in the middle of the offseason. "I'm preparing like I will play this season," Alualu said late last month. "I can't tell where it's gonna be. But in a perfect world, I would love to be back with the Steelers and finish here. But I've been training and it felt normal." Alualu may have to wait for a team to get hit with injuries along the defensive line in camp before he gets an offer.
