Rest-of-Season Projections
2025 Fantasy Outlook
Sherwood was primarily a special-teams contributor for the first three years of his career, stuck behind the combination of Quincy Williams and C.J. Mosley on the depth chart. However, Mosley was sidelined for the majority of the 2024 season due to toe and neck injuries, which allowed Sherwood to log 992 defensive snaps and 158 total tackles. The Jets were confident enough in what he did to cut Mosley and give Sherwood a three-year, $45 million extension. His role is nearly unquestioned heading into 2025 as a result, so 125-plus tackles appears to be in play again. To maintain the level of production in future years, Sherwood will need to prove himself in coverage and become more consistent as a tackler, though the Jets appear to be confident in his ability. Very productive again Sunday
Sherwood tallied 11 tackles (seven solo), including 1.0 sacks, in Sunday's Week 16 loss to the Saints.
ANALYSIS
Sherwood tied for the Jets lead in stops and reached double digits in that category for the third time in the past five weeks. He also picked up his second sack of the season when he brought down Tyler Shough for a 10-yard loss on the first play of the second quarter. Sherwood ranks seventh in the NFL with 140 tackles this season, and he's within reach of the career-high 158 stops he posted last year.

Sherwood appeared in all 17 games for the Jets in 2023 but posted just 46 tackles (28 solo). C.J. Mosley and Quincy Williams are locked into starting linebacker roles, and because the Jets' base defense is a nickel set with three cornerbacks, the team rarely puts a third traditional linebacker on the field, which is why Sherwood didn't play more than 38 percent of defensive snaps in any game last season. Sherwood will likely remain in a reserve role in 2024 barring an injury to Mosley or Williams.

Latest Fantasy Rumors
Free-agent target for Falcons?
Rich Cimini of NFL.com posits that Sherwood could be targeted by the Falcons in free agency after Atlanta hired Jeff Ulbrich and Mike Rutenberg to its coaching staff.
ANALYSIS
Ulbrich was the defensive coordinator for the Jets before taking over as the interim head coach, while Rutenberg was the linebackers coach in New York, so both coaches are familiar with Sherwood. The 2021 fifth-round draft pick of the Jets is set to be an unrestricted free agent this offseason following a breakout campaign in which Sherwood ascended to a starting role and excelled with 158 tackles, including a league-high 98 solo tackles.
