2025 Fantasy Outlook
Although he began 2024 as an off-the-bench complement to Zack Moss, it didn't take long for Brown to prove he was the top running back in Cincinnati. It was probably in Week 4 that the Bengals coaching staff got the hint, when Brown ran for 80 yards and two TDs against Carolina. He went on to out-touch Moss in the next four games, at which point Moss suffered a season-ending neck injury. Brown demonstrated immense receiving upside over eight subsequent games, catching 38 passes, confirming that he has the ability to claim standout volume as both a runner and receiver. The Bengals expect Moss to return healthy and signed accomplished passing-down back Samaje Perine in free agency, but Brown (4.43-second 40-yard dash) is their best rushing threat and also their most dangerous RB after the catch. Brown withstood massive usage in college at Illinois without breaking down, and he made it through last season healthy until suffering a freak ankle sprain Week 17 when he intentionally went down to run out clock. He might have returned to action if Cincinnati had reached the playoffs, and he's now in excellent position for large 2025 workloads after the team waited until Round 6 to draft a running back (Tahj Brooks). Brown (ankle) participated in Cincinnati's opening session of OTAs on Tuesday.
ANALYSIS
Brown appears back to full health after an ankle injury forced him to sit out the Bengals' regular-season finale against Pittsburgh last year. The 25-year-old running back is fresh off a Year 2 breakout in which he rushed 229 times for 990 yards (4.3 YPC) and seven scores while adding an impressive 54 catches (on 65 targets) for 360 yards and four touchdowns. Brown's 2024 performance is particularly impressive considering that as a rookie fifth-rounder in 2023, he logged just 44 carries for 179 yards. Cincinnati opted to keep Zack Moss (neck) around via a reworked deal rather than significantly add to the backfield in free agency beyond Samaje Perine, or in the 2025 NFL Draft other than sixth-rounder Tahj Brooks. Those decisions imply confidence from the team in Brown's ability to reprise a significant starting workload, a role that he's already proven an ability to translate into high-end fantasy upside.

Past Fantasy Outlooks
2024
2023
The Bengals appear to favor Zack Moss as their starting running back after signing him to a two-year, $8 million contract in free agency, though the pay isn't prohibitively high if Brown looks like the better player this summer. The Bengals might more so need a rotation between the two, for the sake of both players. Moss has struggled to stay healthy dating back to college and does no good for Cincinnati if he's injured, with history suggesting he'll get banged up if tasked with large workloads each week. Brown can at least provide relief, and there's a chance the former Illinois standout and 2023 fifth-round pick eventually takes the starting role in Cincinnati. He's a capable runner and receiver both, and he's actually heavier than Moss if the most recent height/weight listing are to be believed (215 pounds to 205). Brown is also younger and much faster than Moss (4.43-second 40 vs. 4.65 seconds), giving the second-year pro a real chance to play a lot of snaps in what should be a quality Bengals offense.

Latest Fantasy Rumors
Team settled for sixth-round RB
Per Jeremy Fowler of ESPN.com, Cincinnati did extensive legwork on the 2025 running back draft class but ultimately didn't add another option to its Brown-led backfield until the sixth round, when the Bengals took Tahj Brooks.
ANALYSIS
Fowler expected the Bengals to draft a running back on Day 2, but they waited until well into Day 3, signaling that they plan to move ahead with Brown as their lead back. Brown excelled after taking over the starting role following Zack Moss's season-ending neck injury in 2024, but Brown suffered an ankle injury that kept him from playing in the regular-season finale as the Bengals missed the playoffs. None of Moss, Brooks nor Samaje Perine figure to cut into Brown's workload too significantly in 2025. It would have been a different story had the Bengals selected one of the six running backs that came off the board in the first three rounds of the 2025 NFL Draft.
