Bucky Irving

Bucky Irving

23-Year-Old Running BackRB
Tampa Bay Buccaneers
2025 Fantasy Outlook
Size-adjusted athleticism is generally an important variable when evaluating NFL running back prospects, so despite excellent production in college it was a major strike to Irving's draft stock when he logged poor workout numbers last spring at just 192 pounds (4.55-second 40, 29.5-inch vertical, 115-inch broad jump). There are exceptions to every rule, though, and while other running backs might have failed with his athletic profile, there's something unique about Irving that allows him to transcend the otherwise concerning indicators in his testing. His strong skill set was always clear at the collegiate level, where he stood out for both Minnesota and Oregon before the Buccaneers made him a fourth-round pick last spring. The main limitation with Irving pertains to his usage upside rather than his per-touch effectiveness. Playing at 192 pounds hasn't deprived Irving of the power necessary to thrive between the tackles, but it remains to be seen whether he can physically hold up as a workhorse. Irving went over 20 carries in a game just twice in college, so it might be asking a lot for him to maintain the rushing workload he shouldered in his final six healthy games of 2024 (18.8 carries per game). Makes preseason debut

August 16, 2025
Irving rushed the ball eight times for 12 yards in Saturday's 17-14 preseason win over the Steelers. He added one catch on two targets for 15 yards and a touchdown.
ANALYSIS
Both Baker Mayfield and Mike Evans were on the sidelines for rest, but Irving was one of the few established starting skill-position players to take the field for Tampa Bay. He played three offensive drives and was used heavily on the ground with little effect, though he showcased his pass-catching ability with a nice contested catch in the end zone over Payton Wilson to cap the first offensive possession. Irving established himself as a strong pass catcher as a rookie, but this was still an encouraging preseason debut overall.

2024 Fantasy Outlook
Irving is a skilled player, both as a runner and receiver, and he was highly productive at both Minnesota and Oregon. The question of his NFL viability is less certain, as Irving tumbled to the fourth round of the 2024 Draft after posting disappointing numbers at the combine. Fellow former Pac-12 back Myles Gaskin could be a cautionary tale -- Gaskin was an exceptionally productive four-year player at Washington, yet in the NFL a lack of power and speed has caught up to him. Following a 4.55-second 40 time at 192 pounds, Irving heads to the NFL with some of the same concerns. He's unlikely to challenge incumbent starter Rachaad White in any meaningful way, but Irving could earn a change-of-pace role in an offense that otherwise lacks backfield talent.

Latest Fantasy Rumors
In impressive form already
RBTampa Bay Buccaneers
August 13, 2025
Irving has had an impressive training camp, including during Wednesday's practice when he generated big plays as both a runner and receiver, Brianna Dix of the team's official site reports.
ANALYSIS
Positive reports about Irving have been fairly commonplace throughout camp, and in the final practice before the Buccaneers face the Steelers in a joint session Thursday, the second-year back shined again. Dix reports Irving made a particularly impressive cut outside and accelerated through a hole for what would have likely been a 40-yard gain in live action, and he also made some nifty moves in the open field on a screen pass a couple of plays later to get loose for chunk yardage. Irving is already set to open the season as the unquestioned lead back after his stellar rookie season, and he could see even more opportunity early if Rachaad White's groin strain lingers.
