2024 Fantasy Outlook
Dalton returns to Carolina this season to back up and mentor second-year QB Bryce Young. Last season, Dalton started one game for an injured Young and passed for 361 yards -- more than Young totaled in any game -- and two touchdowns -- matched by Young just once last season. Like last year, Dalton won’t have much help if pressed into action again, though the Panthers acquired wideout Diontae Johnson this offseason and drafted Xavier Legette, who has 4.39 speed, in the first round. The hiring of head coach Dave Canales, the former Tampa Bay offensive coordinator who turned Baker Mayfield into a viable QB last season, should benefit whoever’s under center. If it’s Dalton, he’ll offer a steady veteran hand, but that might not be enough for a QB2 fantasy role, especially considering he lacks rushing upside. Read Past Outlooks
RANKS
Makes three appearances
Dalton finished the regular season with 34 completions on 58 attempts for 361 yards, two touchdowns and zero interceptions in three games.
ANALYSIS
Dalton's passing production all came in Week 3 while starting in place of the injured Bryce Young. Although the Panthers lost that game, it was their highest output in passing yardage all season. At 36 years old, Dalton remains under contract for next season, when he could remain one of the league's best backups while Young attempts to advance his development under a new coaching staff.

Dalton signed a two-year, $10 million contract with the Panthers this offseason after spending the 2022 campaign with the division-rival Saints. Despite losing a preseason competition to Jameis Winston, Dalton became New Orleans' starter Week 4 and never relinquished the job. In 14 appearances, he completed 66.7 percent of his passes for 2,871 yards, 18 touchdowns and nine interceptions. With Carolina, the 35-year-old is slated to occupy a full-time backup role, as the team drafted quarterback Bryce Young with the first overall pick this spring. Should the diminutive Young struggle with durability, Dalton represents an experienced insurance policy, but he otherwise doesn't figure to see the field much.

High praise for rookie teammate
Dalton once again complimented rookie position mate Bryce Young on Thursday regarding the latter's development as a leader, David Newton of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
The veteran backup turned in an admirable performance during a Week 3 spot start in Young's stead, but it was Dalton who was doing the praising Thursday after Young's stellar Wednesday practice. The rookie first overall pick, whose Week 3 absence was due to an ankle sprain, was able to jump back into a full practice session Wednesday and displayed elevated enthusiasm and command of the huddle. "He's done a great job of taking ownership of what we're doing,'' Dalton said. "It was good to see him yesterday step in there and have that leadership, have the energy, have the stuff that's going to lead the group."
