The Bobcats look poised to bring back the same one-two punch at running back from last season, with De’Montre Tuggle as their top tailback and O’Shaan Allison right behind him. Tuggle paced the team in carries in 2021 with 138, but Allison got the second most carries of any running back on the team with 82. Early in the season, Ohio liked to trot out Tuggle as their starter while still giving Allison about 10 carries a game. Allison was held out of the Eastern Michigan game for an undisclosed reason and only got two carries after that, but he should return to form as a solid backup running back. Look for Ohio to lean on their halfbacks in 2022, as they have a major question mark at starting quarterback in the form of Kurtis Rourke.
An injury took him out of the bowl game early, but otherwise Allison had what qualifies as a breakthrough last season (869 rushing yards, 6.3 yards per carry). De'Montre Tuggle is still around to share backfield work, but with Nathan Rourke gone there should be more opportunities for Ohio's running backs this year. With a push toward 175 carries likely, Allison could top 1,000 yards on the ground in 2020.
