Declares as expected
January 14, 2021
Waddle announced Thursday that he'll declare for the 2021 NFL Draft and forgo his remaining two years of eligibility at Alabama, Charlie Potter of 247Sports.com reports.
ANALYSIS
After suffering a nasty ankle injury Week 8, Waddle was able to make enough progress to gain clearance for Monday's national title game against Ohio State. While he was still clearly not 100 percent due to the injury, Waddle was at least able to post three receptions for 34 yards in what was ultimately his final collegiate game. Despite having most of his junior season wiped out by injury, the big-play ability Waddle demonstrated during his three years of college football should be enough for him to merit first-round consideration in the draft. With Heisman Trophy winner DeVonta Smith also headed to the professional ranks, rising junior John Metchie is expected to headline the Crimson Tide receiving corps in 2021.

Past Fantasy Outlooks
2020
2019
Waddle’s overall numbers took a step back in 2019, but the explanation could be as simple as opportunity, or lack thereof. Placed fourth on the depth chart behind Jerry Jeudy, Henry Ruggs and DeVonta Smith, Waddle still averaged 17 yards per catch and scored six times through the air. With Jeudy and Ruggs now in the NFL, Waddle has the chance for an explosive junior campaign. As a freshman he caught 45 passes for 848 yards and seven touchdowns, figures he should be able to eclipse as long as quarterback play remains decent under Mac Jones. Waddle also had two return touchdowns last season, which only helps his value even further.
Waddle had little impact during Alabama's playoff run to the National Championship game, but he played an integral role in the offense up to that point. In fact, only Jerry Jeudy finished the 2018 campaign with more receiving yards. Waddle compiled 45 catches for 848 yards and seven touchdowns during an extremely successful freshman year. The Tide return the aforementioned Jeudy along with DeVonta Smith and Henry Ruggs to the mix, so competition could be fierce for targets and opportunities. Still, there should be plenty of ball to go around with Tua Tagovailoa under center.

Ankle
January 10, 2021
Alabama head coach Nick Saban relayed that Waddle (ankle) remains a game-time decision ahead of Monday's College Football Playoff title matchup with Ohio State, Charlie Potter of 247Sports.com reports. "He has been able to practice to some degree," Saban said of Waddle. "I think the biggest challenge is can he sustain in the game, and it'll be a game-time decision as to whether he thinks he can play and go out there and do his job well enough to contribute to the team. We won't know that until we get out there after pregame warmup."
