Four touchdowns in near comeback
Finley completed 22 of 41 passes for 354 yards, four touchdowns and one interception during Saturday's 41-30 loss against Buffalo. He also had nine rushes for negative seven yards.
ANALYSIS
Finley was pretty static throughout the matchup, until he unleashed three passing touchdowns and almost brought his team to a comeback against the Bulls. The starting quarterback may not have snuck out a win, but he put together his best performance since Week 3 against Colgate, and he should be primed for another high-volume performance against Northern Illinois on Nov. 13.

2023 Fantasy Outlook
After N.C. state acquired Brennan Armstrong from Virginia, the writing was on the wall for Finley, who promptly entered the transfer portal and landed at Cal. Unfortunately for Finley, the starting job is far from certain. TCJ transfer Sam Jackson is also in the fold, commencing a quarterback competition that will last throughout fall camp. The skill sets of the two quarterbacks couldn’t be more different, as Finley is more of a conventional drop-back passer. Jackson is an undersized dual-threat speedster, and accommodating both quarterbacks would certainly stretch Cal’s offensive playbook. Finley has more starting experience, as Jackson was often employed as a wildcat quarterback for TCU and little else.
