A storied rivalry of former SEC West foes meets for the 111th time on Saturday. LSU leads the rivalry with a record of 64-42-4, most recently winning last year's matchup 29-26. There has been a lot of buzz around this year's contest as both teams come in ranked in the top-25. But, oddly, the buzz may be more so due to the Kiffin family than the play of either team. Landry Kiffin, the daughter of Ole Miss head coach Lane Kiffin, posted a picture early in the week with LSU star middle linebacker Whit Weeks stoking the flames of the rivalry even more. Despite all the off-the-field antics (which we are never short on when Lane Kiffin is involved), heading into this one, we look set for quite a battle on the gridiron.

Ole Miss vs LSU Betting Picks for Week 5

After coming out of the gates with what looked to be a massive win over Clemson, many questions have popped up since. Though LSU is still 4-0, following their win over Clemson, the Clemson Tigers have gone into a spiral, raising questions about how big the win for LSU truly was. In the meantime, for LSU, the offense, which was supposed to be the calling card for the Tigers, has struggled as starting quarterback Garrett Nussmeier hasn't been as sharp as many expected. In week two, LSU beat Louisiana Tech 23-7, a bit of a shocker as the offense scored just two touchdowns in that game. The Tigers then followed up their shockingly unstellar win over LaTech with a 20-10 win over Florida. The offense again raised concerns, scoring just one touchdown despite getting five turnovers from their defense. However, a week ago, the offense might have found a rhythm as they beat up on Southeastern Louisiana 56-10, and Nussmeier threw for 273 yards with three touchdowns in just three quarters of action.

Despite the offensive woes for the Tigers, one thing that has helped them all season to this point has been an extremely dominant secondary. LSU brought in three new members to its secondary this offseason after a terrible 2024 season defensively. The Tigers snagged safety Tamarcus Cooley from North Carolina State, safety A.J. Haulcy from Houston, and cornerback Mansoor Delane from Virginia Tech. All three portal adds have been extremely impressive for the Tigers, but Delane might be having the biggest impact so far. Through four games on the season, Delane has been targeted by opponents 18 times and has allowed just four catches for 36 yards while also coming down with an interception. Cooley and Haulcy have also contributed to the uptick in production out of the secondary with an interception each.

On the other side of the field, the Rebels have also gotten out to a hot start, going 4-0 while averaging 44.8 points per game. The Rebels' offense has been scorching hot since the start of the season, even though starting quarterback Austin Simmons went down with an ankle injury after the second game. After Simmons threw for 576 yards combined in the first two contests of the season, backup Trinidad Chambliss came in without a hiccup, racking up 914 yards of total offense, including 719 passing yards, accounting for six total touchdowns and zero turnovers. The status of Simmons this week is still up in the air as head coach Lane Kiffin has been playing some games with the SEC's new availability report in not listing Simmons in any report since the injury. However, it looks as though Chambliss will get the nod to start against the Tigers, but Simmons could be available should Chambliss struggle.

Ole Miss vs LSU Predictions for Week 5

This will be quite an interesting matchup with Chambliss and Ole Miss's offense firing on all cylinders and LSU's defense suffocating opponents. One interesting quirk that could make things difficult for the Tigers is the rushing ability of Chambliss. Chambliss, as a backup, was known more as a rushing threat, but it has been clear his passing has gotten to a point that is undeniable, with 719 yards in two games. The Tigers' defense has yet to really face off with a quarterback who has shown a true dual-threat ability.

With the struggles of the LSU offense as of late and the way in which the Ole Miss offense has been playing to start the season, I like the Rebels to get revenge at home.

Ole Miss 33, LSU 28
