While the Vanderbilt Commodores failed to repeat their upset victory in Nashville over Alabama this season, the Music City squad did manage to have the largest week-over-week gain in social media followers among the Power Four members, at 1.312%.

That figure put Vanderbilt atop our list for the week, ahead of Wake Forest (+0.794%), Ole Miss (+0.751%), Arizona State (+0.634%) and Miami (+0.539%), as the Demon Deacons survived a 30-23 road game against Virginia Tech, thanks to 256 passing yards for quarterback Robby Ashford, while Ole Miss and ASU were off this week and the Hurricanes used a 14-3 first half edge to pull off a 28-22 home win over in-state rival FSU to move to 5-0 for the season on Saturday night.

The other teams in the Power Four ranks that moved the most when it came to social media following in Week 6 were Indiana (+0.505%), BYU (+.500), Illinois (+0.487%), Penn State (+0.471%) and Texas A&M (+0.452%), with all but Penn State winning this weekend, with the Nittany Lions traveling cross-country to Los Angeles to lose to UCLA, 42-37 inside the Rose Bowl, while Indiana had a bye week, BYU beat West Virginia (38-24), Illinois bested Purdue (43-27) and Texas A&M thumped Mississippi State, 31-9.

The rest of our Power Four social media movers this week included Minnesota (+0.428%), Florida (+0.427%), Oregon (+0.423%), Houston (+0.420%) and Georgia Tech (+0.404%), with the Golden Gophers getting whacked, 42-3, by Ohio State, while the Ducks and Yellow Jackets were off this weekend. Of the others, Florida upset ninth ranked Texas, 29-21, while Houston found itself on the wrong end of a 35-11 homefield beatdown at the hands of Texas Tech, capping off this week's list of Power Four social media movers.

Q&A:

Q1: Which college football team dominated social media growth this week?
The Vanderbilt Commodores led all teams in social media growth this week, climbing 12 spots to No. 1 with a 1.312% increase — the strongest gain among all programs.

Q2: Were there any surprising teams in the Top 5?
Yes — the Top 5 saw several surprises, with Miami jumping 29 spots to No. 5, Vanderbilt surging 12 spots to No. 1, and Ole Miss rising 11 spots to No. 3, while Wake Forest held steady and Arizona State slipped slightly but remained in the mix.

Q3: What does this ranking reveal about the connection between the field and social media?
The numbers highlight how closely game-day results fuel online hype. Teams that score big wins or deliver poor performances often see a direct spike in engagement online. Social media is becoming a real-time scoreboard of fan enthusiasm—one where both traditional powerhouses and rising programs can grab the spotlight.
