Eligible to play
Howard head coach Kenny Blakeney said Tuesday that Towns has been granted a waiver by the NCAA and is eligible to make his season debut Tuesday against Boston University, Jeff Goodman of Stadium reports.
ANALYSIS
Towns missed Howard's first three games while he waited on his eligibility waiver request, but he's now eligible to begin what will be his eighth and final season of college basketball. He began his career at Harvard in 2016-17 and was the Ivy Conference Player of the Year as a sophomore in 2017-18, but he's proceeded to miss three of the ensuing four seasons due to back and knee injuries. Towns, who transferred to Ohio State ahead of the 2020-21 season and played 25 games that year, also sat out the most recent season, citing personal reasons after he experienced a setback in his recovery from an injury. After taking the past season off, the 26-year-old elected to resume his career last May, when he re-entered the transfer portal and joined Howard as a graduate transfer. Now that he's been fully medically cleared and the NCAA has declared him eligible, Towns looks like he'll be ready to fill a key role for the Bison.
