Frequently asked questions about sports betting

When will sports betting be legal in Nevada?

Last Updated: Apr 16, 2020
|
Fact Checked By: Adam Zdroik

Nevada is the lone state that has held sports betting throughout PASPA. When it was passed in 1992, Nevada was granted an exemption from prohibition and was the lone state to have full-fledged betting until PASPA was repealed in 2018. Given their time in the space as a sports-betting destination, Nevada has the most developed industry in the country.

If you're interested in online and mobile betting within the state, you'll need to set up an account in person and fill out a players club card in the process.

Nevada has an endless list of sportsbooks and they're most prevalent in Las Vegas where most non-local bettors flock. While a lot of casinos have their own sportsbooks, a lot of them have partnerships to offer mobile sports betting. Because of that, it's best to separate by online sportsbooks and non-Las Vegas sportsbooks. Most of the casinos in Las Vegas have retail locations in addition to online offerings.

Of note, while Daily Fantasy Sports are not illegal, you need a license to operate within the state, which sites like DraftKings and FanDuel don't have.
