VJ Edgecombe

20-Year-Old GuardG
2025 Fantasy Outlook
In his lone collegiate season at Baylor, Edgecombe averaged 15.0 points, 5.6 rebounds, 3.2 assists and 2.1 steals in 32.7 minutes per game. He posted 44/34/78 shooting splits on 11.5 field-goal attempts, 4.6 three-point tries and 4.3 free-throw trips per game. Edgecombe was named Big 12 Freshman of the Year and earned Second-Team All-Big 12 honors. Edgecombe's two-way potential jumps off the screen. His elite athleticism, paired with a strong motor and high effort, makes him lethal on defense and in transition. He has the ability to hit circus shots around the rim, but he'll need to be patient and pick his moments better as a pro. Edgecombe profiles as an off-guard in half-court sets, but he certainly has the potential to be a ballhandling playmaker if he improves his decision-making. Edgecombe's ceiling will be as high as his three-point shot takes him. He was solid at Baylor in that department but needs to make a significant leap to be considered an elite 3-and-D wing in the NBA. The 76ers selected him with the No. 3 overall pick in the 2025 NBA Draft, but Philadelphia's wing rotation is muddied. Outside of Tyrese Maxey cemented as the starting point guard, there are Quentin Grimes, Jared McCain and Kelly Oubre in addition to Edgecombe. The rookie probably has the inside track to occupy one starting spot, but how much usage is available for him after Maxey, Joel Embiid and Paul George get their touches? Embiid and George will probably miss enough time to give Edgecombe some high-usage opportunities, but will that usage be consistent enough for Edgecombe to be a standard-league relevant asset in fantasy? Personal Bio/PreCareer Summary

Edgecombe was born in the Bahamas and immigrated to the United States for high school. He attended Victory International Institute in Florida for two years before transferring to Long Island Lutheran in New York. As a junior, Edgecombe won a state championship en route to being named New York Gatorade Player of the Year and National Interscholastic Basketball Conference Player of the Year. As a senior, Edgecombe earned McDonald's All-American honors, and the consensus five-star recruit picked Baylor over Duke and Kentucky. In his lone collegiate season, Edgecombe averaged 15.0 points, 5.6 rebounds, 3.2 assists and 2.1 steals in 32.7 minutes per game. He posted 44/34/78 shooting splits on 11.5 field-goal attempts, 4.6 three-point tries and 4.3 free-throw trips per game. He was solid at Baylor in that department but needs to make a significant leap to be considered an elite 3-and-D wing in the NBA. Edgecombe's prowess on defense and in transition is similar to Amen (6'7, 200) and Ausar Thompson's (6'6, 205), but the twins were taller and stronger coming into the league, and Edgecombe is a better shooter. Jaden Ivey (6'4, 195) has a more comparable frame to Edgecombe, but Ivey had the higher offensive upside, while Edgecombe is a better defender. Given his defensive skills, Edgecombe's floor is similar to a defensive-minded guard like Iman Shumpert (6'5, 220), but his offensive potential is reminiscent of an early Dejounte Murray (6'4,180) or Derrick White (6'4, 190).

Plenty of run in preseason opener
GPhiladelphia 76ers
October 2, 2025
Edgecombe tallied 14 points (4-13 FG, 1-6 3Pt, 5-5 FT), six rebounds and three assists in 30 minutes during Thursday's 99-84 preseason loss to the Knicks.
ANALYSIS
Edgecombe made a nice impression in his first NBA game action, also leading the team in minutes Thursday. With Jared McCain (thumb) likely to miss the onset of the regular season, Philadelphia will likely want to take a long look at Edgecombe during the preseason as an option for an expanded role. The rookie first-rounder should offer the 76ers' disruptive defense no matter what his role is, as he averaged 2.1 steals per game over 33 contests for Baylor in 2024-25.

Latest Fantasy Rumors
Making progress with shot
GPhiladelphia 76ers
September 30, 2025
Head coach Nick Nurse said that Edgecombe has made "some great strides" with his shot this offseason, according to Derek Bodner of AllPHLY.com.
ANALYSIS
"He really went to work on his shooting after we drafted him, and he's made some great strides there," Nurse said. "I think success for him this year is minutes. How many minutes did he play? Because we need to let him play through the ups and downs." Edgecombe is coming off an impressive 2024-25 campaign during his lone collegiate season at Baylor, where he averaged 15.0 points, 5.6 rebounds, 3.2 assists and 2.1 steals per game in 33 appearances. However, there is room for the No. 3 overall pick to improve, as he shot 43.6 percent from the field and 34.0 percent from beyond the arc at Baylor. The 20-year-old guard has seemingly made that a priority this summer and will now look to carve out a significant role in Philadelphia. With Jared McCain expected to miss at least four weeks and Paul George having underwent arthroscopic knee surgery in July, Edgecombe could see meaningful playing time right away.
