2025 Fantasy Outlook
Life was tough for Caldwell-Pope away from Nikola Jokic last season. He posted his lowest points per game (8.7) since his rookie year and his lowest three-point percentage (34.2%) since the 2015-16 season. He remained a solid defender, averaging 1.3 steals and 0.4 blocks in his 29.6 minutes, but those weren't numbers consequential enough to make him fantasy relevant. More of the same wouldn't be surprising from the 32-year-old. He was dealt to the Grizzlies from the Magic in the Desmond Bane deal, and he has a chance to start in the open shooting guard spot. But he'll also be contending with Ty Jerome, Jaylen Wells and other players from the Grizzlies' crowded, albeit unproven, wing rotation. There's not much upside to be had from selecting KCP in fantasy this season, and he's probably only useful for managers in deep leagues who are desperate for three-and-D production. Caldwell-Pope notched 16 points (5-8 FG, 3-5 3Pt, 3-3 FT), two rebounds, five assists and two steals in 23 minutes during Sunday's 119-96 win over Portland.
ANALYSIS
Caldwell-Pope has been stuck in a brutal slump to begin the season, but he finally showed some signs of life Sunday. The 16 points were a season high, a welcome sign as the veteran swingman looks to find his footing during his first year with Memphis. Caldwell-Pope is averaging 8.3 points, 2.8 assists, 1.6 rebounds and 1.8 three-pointers in 20.1 minutes per game over his last eight contests, shooting 51.9 percent from three-point range.

Caldwell-Pope left the Nuggets to join the Magic in the offseason after signing a three-year, $66 million deal during the offseason. His role in Denver was limited to being a spot-up shooter in an offense that featured Nikola Jokic and Jamal Murray as the alpha dogs on a nightly basis. Though his situation won't change too much in Orlando, there's a chance he might have a more significant responsibility on offense due to his status as a veteran with tons of playoff experience under his belt. After all, the two best players in the Orlando roster, Paolo Banchero and Franz Wagner, have combined for just five years in The Association, whereas this will be Caldwell-Pope's 12th campaign in the NBA. Caldwell-Pope averaged 10.1 points per game, 2.4 rebounds, 2.4 assists and 1.3 steals per game while shooting 40.6 percent from three-point range in 2023-24. Don't be surprised if those numbers experience a slight uptick due to a potential higher usage rage, but either way, the fact he's scored in double digits while shooting at least 39 percent from deep in his last three years playing for a contending team bodes well for his chances of making an even bigger fantasy impact in Orlando. He can be particularly effective in category-based leagues since he can chip in with points, shooting percentages and peripheral stats, such as assists and steals, on a nightly basis.

Recognizes struggles
Caldwell-Pope acknowledged that his shooting wasn't up to his own standards during the 2024-25 season, according to Jason Beede of The Orlando Sentinel. "Not as I expected for my performance," Caldwell-Pope said. "I finished a little solid, but shooting-wise that could be a lot better. That goes into a lot. I thought my season was pretty good despite everything we've been through."
ANALYSIS
Caldwell-Pope, who signed a three-year, $66 million contract with the Magic last offseason, conceded his shooting wasn't up to par in 2024-25. The numbers back that up. He converted 40.3 percent of his threes from the 2018-19 to 2023-24 seasons, but he made just 34.2 percent of his attempts in his first year with the Magic. "I felt like I was a little bit more stagnant this year as far as not moving to get open or find open windows to be able to get those shots," he said. "For me, just this summer, getting more attempts at the rim and being able to just shoot all summer."
