Payton suffered a partially torn ligament in his left thumb during Tuesday's 112-86 loss to the Heat and will miss an indefinite period of time, Shams Charania of ESPN reports.

A timeline for Payton's return likely won't be provided until the Warriors determine whether or not he will require surgery, but even if the 32-year-old avoids a procedure, he could still be at risk of missing the rest of the regular season. Payton has been a key complementary piece in the Golden State rotation of late, logging at least 20 minutes in seven of his last nine appearances while averaging 11.3 points, 3.9 rebounds, 1.3 three-pointers, 1.3 steals and 1.2 assists while shooting 65.2 percent from the field.
