The Cleveland Cavaliers defeated the Washington Wizards in a 145-101 blowout at Rocket Mortgage Fieldhouse on Wednesday.

The two teams traded leads for most of the first half until the Cavaliers (19-15) went on a 14-4 run and entered halftime with a 12-point lead. Things got worse for the Wizards (6-27) in the third quarter, when they were outscored 34-20 in the third quarter. With the Cavs extending their lead to 30 early in the final frame, both teams elected to empty their benches as Cleveland took the victory Wednesday. The Cavaliers won in practically every statistical category, but were especially dominant in rebounding (62 vs. 36), assists (37 vs. 22) and points in the paint (68 vs. 52).

Only four Wizards players scored in double digits in Wednesday’s loss. Kyle Kuzma led Washington with 16 points, two rebounds and three assists while Daniel Gafford had 12 points on 6-for-8 shooting along with six rebounds and four assists. Corey Kispert and Mike Muscala each chipped in 12 points off the bench and the latter added four rebounds and two assists. Deni Avdija contributed seven points, six rebounds and four assists but had a team-leading three turnovers, while Jordan Poole had eight points on 3-for-11 shooting along with three rebounds and two assists.

Three Cleveland players finished the game with 20-plus points. Max Strus led the way with 24 points while hitting six of his eight three-point attempts and added four rebounds and three assists. Donovan Mitchell had a nice all-around game with 22 points, three rebounds, four assists, two blocks and two steals. Caris LeVert led the bench with 21 points, five rebounds and five assists while Georges Niang chipped in 15 points and eight rebounds in reserve. Jarrett Allen registered his fifth-straight double-double and finished with 17 points, 19 rebounds, seven assists and two blocks.

Wednesday’s contest was the first of a two-game mini series between the Wizards and Cavaliers, with the two teams set to have their rematch Friday.
