Rest-of-Season Projections
2025 Fantasy Outlook
Moncada's tenure with the White Sox ended with a whimper, as he was limited to just 12 games last season because of an adductor strain. Injuries were a common theme for the infielder during his final three years in Chicago, with Moncada averaging just 69 games and 278 plate appearances during that span. Moncada did enter the offseason with a clean bill of health and is somehow still just 29, but the reality is he's been a worthwhile fantasy contributor for just one season in his career and that came in 2019 when offense was booming across the league. He's expected to begin the season as the Angels' primary third baseman after inking a one-year, $5 million contract, but he'll be a gamble for fantasy managers, both in terms of production and availability. In Wednesday's lineup
Moncada (hand) will start at third base and bat sixth Wednesday against the Rangers, Erica Weston of Bally Sports West reports.
Analysis
Moncada missed three consecutive starts after getting hit on his right hand by a pitch Saturday, though he entered Tuesday's game off the bench and went 1-for-2 with two RBI and a run scored. He'll now rejoin the starting nine for Wednesday's series finale and aim to turn things around after going 3-for-19 at the plate to begin the second half.

It's quite possible that Moncada's fantastic 2019 season will wind up being a career outlier. He posted a .315/.367/.548 batting line with 24 home runs and 11 stolen bases over 132 games that year and even garnered one down-ballot vote for American League MVP. In his 1,637 plate appearances since the beginning of the 2020 campaign, Moncada has slashed just .243/.325/.395 with middling power and only six total steals in eight total attempts. The 28-year-old third baseman is locked in for a $24.8 million salary in 2024 and carries a $5 million buyout on his $25 million club option for 2025, so he's probably close to untradeable unless he achieves some kind of massive turnaround in the first half of 2024. He remains an underwhelming fantasy option on a White Sox team that seems a bit directionless at the moment.

Latest Fantasy Rumors

Likely to stick in Anaheim
According to Francys Romero of BeisbolFR.com, the Angels aren't expected to trade Moncada ahead of Thursday's deadline.
Analysis
The Halos have surprisingly ended up as modest buyers at the deadline, so it appears they'll hold onto Moncada despite receiving some trade interest. After signing a one-year, $5 million contract with the Angels in February, the third baseman has a .771 OPS with eight homers this season, though he's been limited to 44 games due to knee and thumb injuries.
