An athletic 6-foot shortstop from the Northeast who got off to a slow start to his pro career after getting drafted 43rd overall in 2023, Stafura found his footing in 2024 at Single-A as a 19-year-old. He slashed .255/.374/.379 with six home runs, 27 steals, a 14.8 percent walk rate and a 23.9 percent strikeout rate in 77 games in the Florida State League. He ranked first in OBP and third in steals among 20 and under hitters in the FSL and could get to more over-the-fence power in the coming years, given his frame and understanding of the strike zone. Stafura seemingly has a pretty high floor, as he should stick at shortstop and has a good approach, and he also has a high ceiling, especially since he might get to play his home games in Great American Ball Park. Stafura is slashing .294/.351/.441 with one home run, one steal and a 13.5 percent strikeout rate in eight games since getting promoted to Single-A Daytona.
Analysis
He was dreadful in the Arizona Complex League in a small sample last year (.071 AVG, 43.4 K%) after getting drafted with the No. 43 overall pick, but Stafura seems to have adjusted better to pro pitching in his first full season. He hit .345 with a .486 BABIP and 29 percent strikeout rate in the ACL this year as a 19-year-old, and the real test will be how he fares over a long stretch against Single-A pitchers. Given that he was a prep hitter from the Northeast, it would make sense that he would be a bit of a late bloomer.
